and no "we are sorry our network is stuffed, here is a pro-rata refund" or anything. They on my ***** list now. Still have my capped account tho.

You know they have a twice your money back guarantee right?

I also moved to Plugg in Nov last year. Still keeping tabs on this thread though. Was going to move this month but the congested CPT IPC scared me off

Unfortunately I was with them for 6 months (double money back guarentee is only first 60 days) while they were still with IS but when they fundamentally changed their whole product, the clock didn't reset and I got nothing nada, not even a sorry.

Why would you move? Plugg are brilliant, I couldn't be happier.

Who said anything about R696. That's crazy. I was hoping for like a R50 1 day unshaped option or something

Dont they already offer a similar option... I think its called turbo or something like that which I think latest for a period of the day

Ah I see.

Shaping of real time services annoys me. I don't mind being shaped, but don't shape my streaming dammit! :D

I'm not home during the day so that doesn't bother me, after 5pm everything is unshaped anyway.

EDIT: Is annoying tho :)

Howzit. Just moved to Afrihost capped after trialing with their 1gb account.
Everything was perfect for the month of testing... now things ain't good. Terribly erratic performance since Tuesday.
Give me the lowdown on the congested CPT IPC . Wondering whether this explains my prob (Logged on the Capped thread).

This would only affect consumer uncapped where downloads are shaped anywhere from 6-25% download speed from 9am-12am (due to too much "peak" demand on the CT IPC), but keeping real time services like streaming unshaped. Business uncapped and capped accounts wouldn't be affected as they are unshaped 24/7.

Am I right Kwerty? Does this help SD?

We don't shape Capped accounts, so congestion wouldn't be the issue. Another problem that seems to be recurring are exchange problems. Feel free to PM me your username and we can investigate.

You are right. Our shaping policy does not affect Capped and Business accounts. It could be another issue.

We shape from heaviest users to lightest. You can look on our Uncapped leaderboard and see how many gigs some users use. We also start shaping when the network is under pressure- regardless of what people are doing.
We shape according to Realtime and Non-realtime protocols. Realtime activities include: Web browsing (HTTPS); Live Streaming (YouTube); Secure browsing (HTTPS); VOIP; Email; Terminal services (SSH) and Gaming
Non-realtime activities include: HTTP Downloads (downloading a file from your browser), Torrents (BitTorrent), News servers (NNTP).

We only shape the non-realtime protocols.

I would just like to find out something. If web browsing is not being shaped, would speedtest.net show the shaped speed of an http download or the unshaped speed of browsing?

If the shaped transfer rate, then why does the website itself struggle to load as if the transfer rate really is low?
Same with youtube, games and VOIP.
Even when my speedtest result shows 400KB/s i can't watch a twitch.tv stream on 360p without buffering.

Just wondering

This

Of course they arnt going to shape speedtest.net - they will have that as an exclusion from their shaping

That's how it used to be when they were with IS. When they did the MTN move and everything went pair-shaped, I ended up cancelling last year 5th Nov and moving to Plugg. Paid for 2 accounts that month just to get away, and no "we are sorry our network is stuffed, here is a pro-rata refund" or anything. They on my ***** list now. Still have my capped account tho.

To be fair, when I cancelled Afrihost refunded me for that month when everything went pear-shaped. I actually ended up having free internet that month as Openweb was running the first month free special.

Speedtest.net shows your unshaped speed- what that capable throughput on your line is. Second part of your comment could be another issue- realtime services shouldn't be affected. Please PM me your username and we can have a look.

Hi Afriman/Girl/Guy and everyone else

This is my first week with AH (1MB uncapped). I am happy with the product so far, haven't been shaped and getting torrent download speeds between 60-100kbps, so no complaints from my side, yet.

I hope it stays this way??

When you are shaped and you see something like: http 25% p2p 25% - What does that mean, does it mean that my speed will be 25% slower than what it's supposed to be or does it mean that I am being reduced to 25% of my normal speed?

Thanks

25% of normal speed. Meaning you will get 25kbps on a 1mb

Thanks wingnut. That makes sense.

PM sent. Thanks.

I dealt with their support/account department through email to try and get that 60 day refund and they said no because of the fact I was with them for longer and were not interested in a prorata refund. I didn't push it further than that, I don't like pulling teeth.
