Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Like I said, I think it's I.S. with it's insane uncapped rules that's making life tough for AfriHost and it's customers.

I have the same thing, capped AfriHost = Fine, Uncapped = very slow.

Mine's fine again now... - 4mb uncapped (my line syncs @ 6mb) - seems like its an office hours thing

I sync at 10mb
10 mb Uncapped not looking too good for me , I hope its just a technical issue.
Was gonna see how it performs this month and then move my line next month to Afrihost.
But if it's like this ...

My line also sync at 10mb.

I just hope they get it sorted before I get back on Monday.

I think IS should just stay away from uncapped, I always seem to have speed issues when its a IS account.
Haven't been on the account for 2 hours yet and its going so slow.

Spoke too soon again - results are up and down. 3mbps, 6mbps, 8mbps, 2.5mbps.. Not even an office hours thing I guess.

Still fine here, 4.18 down, 0.4 up locally, 3 down, 0.4 up to uk, 3 down and 0.44 up to us

Wow what a let down! Moved from mweb to try the afrihost uncapped and it's TERRIBLE! 900ms ping to European servers. Is this just today, or is this pretty much the quality of the product? Going to cancel immediately I think.

I'm hoping its a temporary glitch, was great up until yesterday.

From the afrihost client zone

ADSL users based in the Cape Town region have reported increased latency and slow download speeds.
Internet Solutions will be upgrading IPC capacity to resolve the access problem.
The upgrade is expected to be completed soon.

We will update our status page once the upgrade has been completed.

We apologize for any inconvenience this may have caused and thank you for your patience.

As some of you have already noticed, we've got a notice up as follows:-

"...Internet Solutions will be upgrading IPC capacity to resolve the access problem. The upgrade is expected to be completed soon."

We are definitely prioritising this and we hope that it will resolve a lot of the issues in recent days. However we are still exploring every other possible cause, and addressing each and every support complaint individually. We will continue testing with various clients and from our Cape Town partners to ensure that we get this back to normal as soon as possible.

Again, we're truly sorry about this setback, it is temporary, and we are confident it will be resolved and that our capped and uncapped products will start performing at the high levels we expect.

Afriman Out :)

Hi AfriMan,

Is this only affecting Cape Town area customers, or would this also be the cause of the speed problem I PM'd you about, here in the Eastern Cape (near East London)?

Hey Afriman

Ive got an 10Mb line in the eatern cape, which is also only running at 2Mb, I phoned afrihost 10 times, not even kidding, and they keep blaming Telkom, Funny thing is, on an capped account I get full speed. On the 10mb Uncapped account I only get 2mb, how can that be an telkom issue?

That is great news!

Will you let us know as soon as it's done, so we can run some tests?

Awesome :-) an eta would be great...

It sounds like you are being throttled. What I would like to see is on Afrihosts Bandwidth monitor an indicator "Throttled : YES/NO". This would stop 90% of the guessing.

@GarethY - I am in PE and getting the same issues, well last night, that is - the connection was VERY unstable - went up to 4.3mb/s and then right down to 2mb/s and stabilised at 2. Been having the same issues as the other guys on the thread. The speed seemed very stable this morning.
