I logged on

A real explanation would be cool though. The pipes being opened up at lunch time maybe.

For some reason, usage always seems to peak between 11:00 and 12:00 in the afternoon. We're not sure if Linux Distro's go on special at that time :)

Yup, getting a consistent 0.89MB download speed on speedtest from my 4MB uncapped account

Hey people, I am new to these forums and new to Afrihost!

My uncapped account was moving along just fine. Till today: things are extremely slow and speedtest.net won't even load. Granted it is a 384k account, but speeds aren't even breaking 10KB/s :-( Am I mistaken in thinking I should be getting at least 30KB/s download before shaping/throttling? I don't think I should be shaped/throttled yet as my account went active on Thursday and bandwidth usage is only just over 2GB...

Is this perhaps the IS problem that was happening last week?

These are my local speed results from http://speedtest.mybroadband.co.za/:
Download Speed: 66 kbps (8.3 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 29 kbps (3.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 535 ms

AfriMan, still getting speeds at 1.16mb/s on my 4mb/s uncapped line! - This is getting really ridiculous! - It seems like nothing has been fixed! - Over the weekend the speeds where fine, but once again during "working" hours we are being throttled to horrible speeds!
This is not the service I signed up for?

Was about to sign up to the 10Mb Afrihost Uncapped tonight, think I am will wait a while longer till these issues are less common :/

Dunno why you are sceptical, I just did those tests and my line is flying. I have the 10mb uncapped package for R897.

just a question afriman.. if i move my line portion to you, is there anyway you can upgrade it from 6 meg to 8 or 10 ? Telkom always tells me its not possible, yet my neighbours on each side of me have 10 meg :/

The issues he's referring to relate to CT users and particularly performance during the day.My line is also flying now but tomorrow morning it will be crap again.Has left a real sour taste in my mouth as I signed up 2 weeks ago just when this IPC capacity issue reared it's ugly head and 2 weeks later the problem still isn't sorted. At least they have that 60 day double your money back guarantee.I am starting to sense I will be using it shortly

As far as I am aware, the IPC upgrade was successfully completed, so we are liaising with IS to find out what is happening. Previously speeds were poor at all times, and now it seems that after hours those experiencing poor speeds are getting back to full speed. It seems like it is still a contention issue, not one of throttling. We're actively pursuing this with IS to see what options there are going forward.

seems to go to sh*t around late morning through the afternoon.. at the moment I'm getting 4.2MB down and 0.5MB up on speedtest (4mb uncapped)

Hi Afriman

Just out of interest does the afrihost caching proxy still work ?

referring to cache.afrihost.co.za:8080

Agree with this - mine was fine until about 11:30 this morning. Now down to 2.5mb on a 4mb uncapped. Was 3.6mb all morning.
Looking at CINX stats - can't see the individual IS port, but the overall totals don't seem to have changed much in the corresponding time frame.

I don't know about you guys but this is not funny anymore.

Yes, Telkom is more expensive, yes, Telkom doesn't give good customer support, but I've never had any speed problems when I used them as my ISP. I always got full speed.

My G-mail doesn't even want to load today.

Local speedtest 2.7MB down 0.5MB up @ 5PM.. compared to my 4.4MB down and 0.5MB up at 9.30AM.. rather bleak.

@Afriman - any news on this?

Getting 2.88MB down and .85 up on 4meg uncapped and it is now 5:55pm This REALLY is not funny anymore I agree with Piesang.
I used to get 4.6MBDown and .83 up - the only thing that has been stable so far is the upload speed!

AfriMan - please, this is getting bad now.

It seems that, EXACTLY at 6:00pm in the afternoon/evening I am back to my normal high speed of 4Mb/s plus!
When I did Afrihosts diagnostics tests it was 2.8Mb/s and below and then suddenly after 6:00pm the speeds were awesome! Back to 4.6 plus now!

IS is NOT playing along nicely - they seem to be switching the system. And we are not getting our paid for 4Mb/s!

AfriMan I think IS does not care about us as Afrihosts clients.

Update, sorry spoke too soon, speeds down again!
