Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Cant see how you can call it Business ADSL, if its useless after hours

I've seen some of your posts, so let me try to explain.

The Business Account is just that, designed to be unshaped and uncapped during business hours. It's not really meant for heavy personal use, but for offices and business with multiple users during the day. The product is still unshaped and uncapped after hours, but works on a 7 day rolling window. Depending on how much your usage was and when it spiked, it will return to a full throughput once the rolling window total falls below threshold. However, it will always be running at full speed during business hours.

You can send me a PM so I can try to give you an idea of when the after hours speeds will return to full.

Hey Guys

Just a quick note, I'm getting a massive amount of queries in my Inbox (especially on 1Mb to 2Mb upgrades). So 2 things:-

1) Please always include your username and/or ADSL Line number in the message, even if you've PM'd me before, it just means I can help you faster!

2) PLEASE forgive me if I don't remember your details when you ask me stuff, it's not a personal thing, just sheer volume of queries at the mo'.

Thanks guys, will really help me to answer and fix your queries faster :)

This was clearly stated numerous times by Afrihost and AfriMan... Im not sure how you missed it. The account is designed for business applications, and as such, runs completely unshaped and unthrottled during business hours only!

If you want a premium uncapped account, be prepared to pay much more. It simply isn't feasible for companies to give completely un-metered accounts that are also unshaped a the prices Afrihost gives. These prices are really good for business accounts, they also have the guarantee that you wont be shaped or throttled during business hours. That is quite something.

when my line gets transferred to you, how long does that take btw? been about a week and a half. Can you guys get it to 10 meg ?

Both my neighbours have 10 meg, yet i am at 6 meg.

It can take about two weeks or so. We can't guarantee 10Mbps, it depends on Telkom's infrastructure (they make the rules!)

We'll certainly do our best though :)

So how is everyone who is on 2MB uncapped? Speeds? etc. (Cape Town specifically)

So how is everyone who is on 2MB uncapped? Speeds? etc. (Cape Town specifically)

In Durbanville and moved from MWEB Uncapped 1MB to Afrihost 2MB uncapped yesterday, I must say the speed when viewing youtube is by far better, maxing the speed of the line.
But that said, downloading files from our Server hosted at the MWEB Data center only runs at 15kbps(Use to run at +/-95kbps)
and from cnet.com +/-24kbps(Use to run at +/-82kbps at MWEB). Seems like any type of downloading is heavily throttled.

Torrents during the day is dead slow, avg 8kbps
NZB files are nice and quick and will constantly run at 160kbps+

No Cape Town though.

Torrents, nearly non existent. Download between 0.2 - 8kbps and upload, whatever I set the upload limit(Currently 15kbps).

Other downloads like exe's or Samsung apps, quite good.

My 1mb uncapped performed better with torrents than the 2mb uncapped.

I will run some youtube tonight as well.

Thanks guys, I moved to MWEB about a week ago as I was tired of all the **** with IS in CPT.

I'll rather wait until the move to MTN to see how things go.

Jumped on Openweb Platinum 4mbps Account, running at 6Mbps, so far so good, better speed on all applications, AND p2p works all the time :) all of that for R500 more a month, I'll rather take that

i had openweb gold before this.. ask my friends how many times i lagged out of games online :P that was 4 meg uncapped. I seem to be getting better speeds here for half the price! Weird how everyone gets varying results

Just to add. I watched some youtube vids last night. Non HD ones, flying. No need to wait, it just starts playing and no lag.

HD vids loads quite well too. A bit of lag, but not too much. I Just paused it for 10seconds and could watch a full 10min vid without problems.

My torrents were hardly crawling along at less than 5kbps. I saw a "splutter" this morning going up to 180kbps. Also only managed to download about 700mb last night.

So there is some serious shaping on torrents.

Uhm.... and this? (happens with all local sites I ping)
I get 246ms to bbc.co.uk, so only local is borked.

I'm getting 18ms to the above address from my Mweb account.

Weird, first hop spikes a bit, last hop to the site spikes. Smells like a routing issue on their hardware

is there a problem on international ? getting 0.3 download and 0.4 upload on speedtest for the paris server
this ofcourse is on my 1mb uncapped account, funny enough the afrihost capped account seems to be working fine ...
so does this mean im throttled now ?
