Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Afrihost gave me a capped account to test yesterday, and that one worked just fine, so there at least seems to be some problem for (some of?) their uncapped users. Unfortunately the test account I was using stopped working this morning, so I'm back to getting 1/3rd of a megabit now.

I see one or two people complaining that I'm not on the forums enough. I've said this before, I simply cannot respond to every post in a thread. If you really need a response, especially over the weekend, PM me, and I'll answer / escalate / give feedback / fix the problem. This weekend was rAge, so I did take the weekend off (even Afriman needs to have fun occasionally), but every single PM was answered by Monday morning. So in short, if you are expecting an answer, PM me, I get an email and I look into it immediately - just please always include your username so that I can come back with an answer or solution (in fact, just always have it somewhere in your PM, even if you've mailed me before).

Guys getting dreadful speeds, send me a PM. I'll do my best to get you some assistance from support, or any alternative I can think of to get things tolerable until the move. I promise I will respond to every single PM I receive (which I do anyway)

Afriman out :)

Please PM me, the account should still be fine, and there should still be plenty of data :(

My problem is, how long is it until this "move"?
I'm paying for a 4Mbps line and 4Mbps uncapped. Not 1Mbps - 1.5Mbps.
If it is going to be more than a few days, I do not see why we should be paying for a service that cannot be delivered.
For me, this is not fair practice at all. You guys know there is something wrong, yet it seems it is still okay to keep charging those clients who have complained, full price.

Logged a support ticket this morning, and it seems the support staff also isn't aware of what's wrong.
All I got was someone who reset my port, etc.
If numerous people have the same issue, does it not mean that the problem is not account bound?

PS. I also noticed that the support staff member Closed the ticket.
How the F&%# can you close a ticket when you haven't even heard feedback from the client if the problem has been solved.
Now that for me is just ridiculous and pisses me off.

Yesterday it was a little bit better but today is back to tribal drums and smoke signals.

Meanwhile I just follow Afriman's adivce

I was also down to 0.2Mbit for the entire weekend.
But in my stupidity I phoned Telkom, thinking that something was down with the line.

It's only after i ran speedtest again i realised that i am getting a ping well below 25ms and that it couldnt be the line.
I had some gigs from telkom left, changed my account details back to telkom and was receiving 0.9 - 0.95Mbit again.

I really have had no complaints against Afrihost and hope that they get their problems sorted soon, so that I can get back to my uncapped account. I only have 1.2 GB from Telkom left :(

I'm going to DIE with these speeds!!! It's so BAD.

Same here..... It's getting worse every hour. Seems the more I ask for an answer to the speed issue, the slower my speed gets. The fact that it is both international and local traffic makes it even more annoying.

Take note of the time so this is considered as business hours speeds

Afriman says that they are looking into the problem, but the problem is simple, they are shaping us from 8AM in the morning untill about 10PM at night, I know that because my internet got lightning fast last night untill 8AM this morning when like clockwork my speed got worse.

So to fix the problem is actually very simple, just dont shape our uncapped accounts, other than the usual shaping on P2P and VoiP.

And if the speed is going to be like this for the rest of the month then we should ALL demand a refund this month!

PM Afriman and request a test account on MTN network if you are experiencing problems

I don't think it's shaping, could have something to do with them leaving IS

Yep, just got this email from them, definitely IS.

Thank you for the mail,
My apologies for the delayed response,

From what I under stand there is a problem with the speed from our end, on the uncapped accounts, which we are trying to get resolved with our upstream provider.

We apologies as this is an inconvenience for you and are trying our utmost to get the problem resolved as soon as possible.

Thank you for your patience in this regard.

Please do not hesitate to contact us if we may be of further assistance.

Warm Regards
Clayton

EDIT:

Here are some results with Web Africa

Seems our entire network is strained. Can't get anywhere near 10MB/s

I went and checked my newsbins now. And see the ones that were scheduled to download last night went at 400KBps.
I ask again. Why do they think it is okay to throttle everyone, without notifying them.
This is utter crap if you ask me. Really really disappointed in this move by Afrihost. I expected more from them.
I'm not one of those downloading 24/7 people. I maybe download 1-2 episodes a day, in SD. Spend quite some time on YouTube and Gametrailers.com. Other than that, the majority of my usage is towards uploading and working on websites online.
So now they just out of the blue decide it is okay to throttle their clients, without even notifying them.

Absolutely disgusted by this. I don't care if you have a big announcement tomorrow. I'm paying for today as well. So give me what I'm paying for. Why not shape other protocols instead of HTTP, instead of freaking throttling everything.

Really really not happy by this move Afrihost, you should be ashamed. Absolutely ashamed.

And yes, their website still shows everything is okay.

Look fishy to me, why are you hiding the ISP name??
I'm not hiding anything, thats what its showing. Just posting my results with the 4MB uncapped promotion they gave away at rAge.

PS I also updated it with my WebAfrica account for comparison.
