Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Afriman, Do you have an ETA on when gaming and general downloads will be sorted on MTN? Please let me know if you need any tracerts or ping tests done?

+1

I had to switch back to my normal account to pop mail off google apps last night. And D3 wouldn't even launch.

Well I was downloading last night on the MTN trial. The speeds werent great. Then I went back to my standard Afrihost account and the speeds remained above 500kB/s until this morning. So maybe Afrihost moved all their HEAVY Downloaders over to the trial, and now the other pipeline is free to flow :D

The more tests you can run the better, just please pop them in a PM (and MUST have your username) or you can even email the directly to [email protected] so I can forward to the guys doing the "tinkering".

Thanks for the feedback :)

Thing is, traceroutes looked fine. ICMP and udp traffic seemed unaffected... but tcp connections just sucked. Lots of connections in SYN_SENT state... Some established, but no traffic coming down on them

Hi Afriman,

My line was downgraded from 10mb to 8mb when I moved over - do your techies have the prerogative to be able to change my sync speed? People always think my line won't sync @ 10mb because of my stats, but it works/worked fine :(

So just discovered something with my ADSL problem.

turns out, if I make a call on my landline phone, the ADSL disconnects. that's not right at all.
any ideas people? Telkom tech phoned me about 30 minutes ago to ask what is wrong, but still no feedback from him.

You do have a filter between your phone and the phone line, right?

So seeing that the phone is not connected to the filter, would that cause the ADSL to disconnect?

Spyk3r - you seem to be very fortunate :-(

On the MTN Trial....
I have no hope :-(

Spyk3r's would've gone to 64 too, but windows caps it to maximum 30 hops :-) my test also went all the way to 64..

Hi Afriman,

My line was downgraded from 10mb to 8mb when I moved over - do your techies have the prerogative to be able to change my sync speed? People always think my line won't sync @ 10mb because of my stats, but it works/worked fine :(

I found that the function on the Afrihost app to re-sync your line sorted out a similar problem for me. It is also available on the website afaik.

Nothing bad about MTN on that one, just that MWEB seems to let you cheat a bit more if your line sync is higher :-)

Routing table tells packet what to do:
R1. You go there. Packet goes.
R2. No, go back where you came from. Goes back.
R1. What are you doing back here. I told you to go there. Goes there again.
R2. WTF. I told you this is the wrong way. Go back whence you came. Goes back.
Repeat until count = 64

:)

Yip - def would.

Upon further investigation, I see that the phone is connected directly to the box.... The telkom guy that did the installation probably took a shortcut.......

So seeing that the phone is not connected to the filter, would that cause the ADSL to disconnect?

Not flying for us. Here's a break down of the speeds we're getting right now on our different Afrihost accounts:
