As far as I remember from when I signed up, new accounts need to be checked/approved/rubberstamped/whatever by their legal department, which I'm guessing is 9 to 17.
 
I'm getting full speeds on downloads, which great! I was struggling to max out my line when Afrihost were on the IS backbone.

I am struggling with the latency with all the games I play. I rubberband on WoW and D3, and I lag terribly on Fifa13. And Modern Warfare 3 is unplayable.

Hopefully this gets fixed soon. As much as I like downloading at full speed, I like to play online games. And now I can't. I might have to look at another ISP :(
 
I am in Bettys Bay. The IS based account is running full speed (get about 3.3Mbps) with ping of about 30ms.

However, the new MTN based account struggles. Slow pings (70ms), and download speeds of about 2Mbps... Not good.

Ofc,can't use if you aren't on IS network,afriman mentioned they are working on one and a few people here commented about it
 
Yip it worked last night for me as well seems like were on MTN now as my torrents are crawling at 4.5kbs on a 10mb line :( Its pretty *****ty now. Defeats the purpose of having internetz if you cant download anything.
Don't get me started on trying to play D3.
 
Ill give it another month or so at least till Aftermath drops or perhaps when BOPS comes out. Luckily I am playing BL2 atm offline so not that affected by latency for now. But if this doesn't get sorted then I for-see a lot of people going elsewhere. Especially after getting used to newz servers. (& not being able to connect locally if your in the cape province)
 
Interesting,surprised access was even granted as long as it was

Fact of the matter - from a technical standpoint it shouldn't have,and most users were prepared for it by using private binary usenet servers
 
My news server speeds have been great on MTN. Using Newsdemon I get around full speeds between about 6pm and 8am.
 
Apparently I live in Joburg and my ping on BF3 ps3 is now 3 bars and not 4 :( this sucks...

Was away yesterday due to a family emergency. Nothing to worry about (in case you were worrying) :)

I'll get to all your PM's from yesterday, and I'll do my best to reply to any queries in this thread and others. Just remember, quickest way to get an answer is to PM, so please so if you have an urgent question.

Some news, we are now officially moved onto MTN and all IS ADSL will be discontinued soon. That means anyone still using @afrigamer as a stopgap will not be able to connect. You'll need to switch to your regular @afrihost account today so that we can sort out any last issues still causing problems. We are also moving ALL @is.afrihost Uncapped clients onto MTN, which will be happening by the end of the week. Mailers will be issued, but I thought you might as well hear it from me. We know for some it's the proverbial uppercut to the scrotum, but we need to get all these issues worked out so that the network is working for everyone.

Some of you have already mentioned that the IS news server is no longer available. Frankly no-one can explain why it was when we were specifically told it would not be. Anyway, our own news server is close to being ready, so please give us a bit of grace to get it up and running. The longer we can test and prepare, the less teething problems when it's up and running.

Which package are you using? I see on the site, its 30 days or a set amount of GB's. Its unlimited for astraweb AFAIK. Do they have a similar sort of package?

Legacy dns CNAME for when it was on IS,that's invalid now
 
I used to be with Afrihost and am looking to come back. I just want to know what the average download total per month is on a 1mb line without breaking any AUP policies etc. etc.
