To be fair, that has nothing to do with Afrihost and everything to do with Microsoft.
 
Performance is really, really poor for me this morning. I can't even stream a 160kbps music file even with a massive 256kB buffer. That's on a supposed 2Mbps internet connection.
 
... there seem to be some massive lag spikes or packet loss on SSH connections. When typing into my SSH session, it stalls for 1-2 seconds about every 5 seconds. Judging by the fact that data transfers run so slow, I'm betting on packet loss. ICMP pings show no lag or packet loss, so I'm guessing it has to do with Afrihost's shaping.
 
I haven't had a good ping in Team Fortress 2 for months (<80; getting erratic 100-250), anyone got a solution for steam related bad pings? Situated in Stellenbosch. I don't even play Battlefield 3 anymore, because my ping has been atrocious since I got it and it ruins the experience.
 
Very slow for me today - been getting worse over last few days. Used to love Afrihost but rapidly going off them.
 
hey, i am thinking about signing up with AH next month, uncapped 2MB,i keep reading about 7 days rolling window or something, not sure what it's about?
 
the 7 day thing is archaic.

They do a 30 day rolling window now, but thresholds are fairly high.

They add up your data usage over the last 30 days, and if it's over a certain amount they start throttling you.
 
Rolling Window is basically the amout used in the last 30 days - it doesn't reset on the 1st of each month. So to get your 'current' total you take todays usage and add it to the combined usage of the previous 29 days.
 
Browsing is slow.
Can't stream Youtube
Can't get more than 30KBps downloading from Youtube
Pings aren't great either.

2Mbps uncapped account on a 4Mbps line. Cape Town.
 
shew...maybe going a bit off topic here, but is there an ISP who do not throttle , at R300 for 2MB.
