Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Easy to cancel just the line is with afrihost at the moment don't know the process/timeframes of getting it back to telkom as I haven't been through that process

We move the line back at the end of the month, provided you cancel in good time. Best to do that as soon as possible in ClientZone, if you've made up your mind to do so :(

Just so everyone on a 4Mb account knows - you could move to Plugg for an additional R91 per month (if you're using the R697 Afrihost bundle like I am). At this stage it looks like it'd be worth doing such a move as Afrihost seem to put the uncapped users at the end of the queue in terms of quality and performance of the connection.

This is how:

Current
Telkom Line: R148.37
Account: R697.00

Total: R845.37

With Plugg
Telkom Line: R148.37
ADSL 4/10Mbps (Axxess): R359.00
Plugg 4Mbps account: R429.00

Total: R936.37

EDIT: FYI, my 4Mbps account (8Mbps line sync) is running at 0.5Mbps-1.2Mbps international.

anyone having issues on their uncapped account? Seeing major packet loss. Can't even do a speedtest. pings to google time out every 10-15 packets or so.

I think I understand a lot of the frustration here.

I have been using a test account from another company for a day or two and it is wonderful. Not faster than or less latency than I used to have on Afrihost before the MTN move, but exactly the speed and latency I used to have on Afrihost.

That is my frustration. I am now getting a service inferior to what I used to have. The promise was that it would be at least the same or superior than before. Granted, Afrihost is still busy tweaking things and getting familiar with doing everything themselves, but it seems they are falling around in the dark. In addition, I have to pay for that.

I am sure they have smart people working on hard on this, Afriman is doing his best trying to tell the customers what he is allowed to tell them and that Afrihost support is trying to answer questions on things they probably have no control/understanding of. In this case, they need to communicate more. Constantly having the “All systems are performing within specified parameters” displayed on the website, when things are clearly not working is this adding to the frustration.

I think Cape Town users are getting a bad deal. No timelines on when IPC will be implemented.

The QoS policies are not working. I have just checked my average bandwidth usage over the last 5 months (before that it was even less). It works out to just under +-59GB per month. I was severely shaped since Friday. Why? No communication from support until late last night and then saying there is an issue with 10Mb accounts. I am on 4Mb.

If I know how long it will be until I get the same or better service, I am happy to stay a customer. If not, I will probably be a customer until the end of this month.

Simple as that.

Ok I think I am going to move to Mweb since my Ping is 70ms after the MTN move...

I am ready to move out. this BIG MOVE to MTN has screwed me over gaming wise and i cant even watch a 240p youtube clip without stopping it to buffer!!!! Got a 8Mbit line...

I don't understand your take on this. You would prefer begging for mercy and "oh please please stay"?

At afriman, windows updates still don't work for me The assistan keeps telling me upgrades are not avialable in my country. yet your support desk tells me the following

Please note that the issue has been resolved ,

Please ensure you are using dynamic DNS settings and not others like Google's DNS .

I am using dynamic dns, but i doubt dns has anything todo with this I think he is just talking crap

This has been covered brfore............

Microsoft is looking at your DNS and telling you it is not available. Note MICROSOFT, Where does Afrihost come into this? If Microsoft is too lazy or stupid to update their geosync or whatever it is called.

I'm using a dynamic dns which are 196.7.7.7 and 196.7.8.9

A minor correction - microsoft is looking at your IP address, and their geo-ip location DB says it doesn't exist. DNS does not come into the picture.

This MTN move is an absolute disaster. We have over 20 Afrihost accounts at work, and everyone is complaining that the speed is inferior. Even normal web browsing is abysmal; my VPN connection to work is being shaped to death as well.

Sadly, there is nothing to fix here - this is the new level of service. Get used to it or move.

I throttle nntp to 500K/sec so I have 1mb of unused line for browsing, d3 etc. 6mb line.

It's most likely more IP related, we'll need to get the IP you are being assigned and find out why the solution we put in place is not working. Please PM all the details (or email to [email protected]) with your username and I'll see what I can find out in the morning.

I can understand that you are frustrated and from a client perspective, I don't blame you. But this is not a case of us saying "we've got enough money and clients, so take what you can get" - we are genuinely dedicated to getting everyone the excellent experience the network is capable of. I have several emails and comments from clients saying this has worked out excellent for them. And I only mention that to show that MTN is capable and we are willing and determined, and we are confident that we will get the results that we want and expect.

Timeline? When will things improve in Cape Town specifically?

Here's the international throughput on my 4 Mbps account:

Ping: 1164
Down: 0.17 Mbps
Up: 0.25 Mbps
