but just to confirm, I don't have a secret identity (I mean other than my main secret identity) and I post as me, promise!

What, you mean that a person who has been critical of Afrihost every time they've screwed up ISN'T your alternative identity? I'm shocked. SHOCKED, I tell you!

How is it that he is so lucky to get 1.21MB/s download speed for 14 days straight? I'm also on a 10mb/s line and the max I get is about 1.04MB/s. And that is if I'm lucky.

http://lmgtfy.com/?q=1.4TB+/+14+days

OTOH, it could be 1.35TB rounded in 14.49999 days rounded. And he could be counting the TB like a hard disk manufacturer but the MB as 2^10*2^10 bytes. In that case, the maths look like this:
(1.35*1000*1000*1000*1000)/(60*60*24*15+(60*60*12-1))/1024/1024 = 0.961MB/s

:P

But yeah, considering the massive problems Afrihost have had, getting 0.961MB/s sustained over 14.49999 days seems somewhat implausible.

@Afriman, please in plain english outline the user experience Afrihost has planned for a user on your 10 meg uncapped offering in usage bands within your AUP? Even if the status quo is not there, what does your networking team forecast given your network capacity compared to say the period before the IS move issues where service was great? Perhaps break it down for Youtube streaming, normal browsing and downloads, Torrents, NTP etc.

I don't have a specific breakdown. But our idea is to dynamically shape protocols and leave services like VoIP and HTTP untouched so that users are not throttled to death. So we would start throttling only specific protocols like P2P, torrents and NZB's, but leave HTPP (Port 80) on max available speed. i'm not sure if this system is in place yet, but that is the idea for how we want to manage uncapped.

I don't have all the details though, I'll need to get more info and get back to you on this.

streaming from twitch.tv is not even possible at 240p. Latency is a complete fail. Good luck this week Afriman. You gonna need it.
Last night tried to stream some twitch on my 2meg line. Was only able to achieve around 60kbps according to netlimiter....Did a speedtest and that seemed to be running normally. I then connected using my 1gig free account from afrihost and my twitch.tv was perfect

Working for me at present seemed to work over the weekend, my problem is that I had Astraweb as the backup server. So if Afrihost went down,,,,,,,,, I would not know about it. At this moment I deleted Astraweb.

Am I going to be able to use the news server very soon??

news.afrihost.co.za worked perfectly for me for a couple of days but now it is just totally dead.

Afrihost, Are you guys having trouble with international connectivity because my 1Mbps uncapped account is horrible at the moment when using international sites and speed tests confirm that, Local is just fine.

I'm in Cape Town and I have a 4Mb uncapped package from Afrihost and besides the higher ping times because of a lack of IPC in Cape Town I haven't had any issues at all with my account. I get full line speed on downloads and torrents. Just saying...

My speeds have been fine up until this afternoon.

Getting a whopping 0.36Mbps on a 10Mbps line:

Test from Saturday:

I've used a grand total of 27GB this month

This is the first time I've seen speeds under 8Mbps since moving from WA.

It's not my exchange that's congested,

This should be interesting, look how the download speed drops from 5 threads down to 1:

A word of warning - don't bother with the Business ADSL Uncapped lines, thinking you'll get anything better for twice the price. Afrihost seems to operate under the delusion that businesses only operate between 8am and 5pm so after hours they throttle the s**t out of the Business uncapped and you'll be lucky to get 1/4 of your max possible bandwidth. It also doesn't help that if you're in Cape Town you seem to peer with other Cape Town sites via Johannesburg. So if you're using a business ADSL account at home in Cape Town, trying to use the vpn to your office in Cape Town after hours, you may as well run a piece of string with 2 cans...

I've had horrible speeds this afternoon, I've used a total 15gb this month on my 2mb uncapped account. My current download speeds are 20-50kb/s. Dropped to 5kb/s for a few minutes at one point. My local game latency however is fine. :/ Absolutely HORRIBLE

Oh what a surprise. Crap speeds again. Went so well during the day, but now..... horrible.

Supposed 4Mbps Uncapped.
What a joke. You can see it is some sort of throttling or shaping. YouTube video going at almost exactly 120KBps. With 3 different videos I just watched. Same on Gametrailers.com

Seriously Afrihost.... I want 75% of my money back, as you can only supply 25%

I just cancelled. Goodbye AfriHost. I waited, and waited and waited, I didn't want to leave.
It just seems that it is worse than ever before, and it keeps going in that direction.
I'll rather move to MWEB and get a 2Mbps account instead of the 4Mbps account I have with you. At least there I'll actually get what I'm paying for. Cause right now, I'm paying for 4Mbps and only getting 1Mbps.
Thanks, but I'll rather move on and give my money to a company who never let me down before....
We had some good times in the past, but now it has just gone on for too long.
Just want to say thanks to AfriMan for being helpful, pity the rest of the company doesn't give the same amount of excellent service.

Obvious shaping is obvious...

Afriman please explain to us all why we are paying the amount we pay for these pathetic accounts? ISP of the year is quickly turning into joke of the year

I remember a few times having axxess uncapped and easily pulling 400GB in a month with no shaping when it was on the IS network... Now I get this piece of rubbish account. Average 6GB per day which is half of what I use to do on Axxess and you shape like this?

At this stage, I think they should remain the same, I'll let everyone know if there is a change. We might need to find ways of rate limiting those who have used the most bandwidth since the 16th, but as you can see from my example, it's redonkulous amounts, so reasonable users should not be affected.

Redonkulous amounts? Lol...

So the great idea you guys have to limit usage is just to shape everyone to s*** no matter what it is they are doing on the net?
