@Afriman

Only saw last nights PM just now (MyBroadBand focus group invite), and have just replied (here, and gmail). Am I too late to take part?

I'm still going through all the responses, so will let you know if you make the cutoff. Should be fine though :)

Afrihost is testing my patience.

I have, for all intents and purposes, no internet connection. And haven't had much for a few days now. I see you promise better connectivity for Cape Town folks in the new year. Huh? I spent fifteen painful minutes on hold (to a JHB number), and then get cut off.

Now persuade me not to change ISPs.

Not much different in Johannesburg! Speed fluctuates enormously, especially on international speed tests...!

from
http://www.speedtest.net/result/2293888329.png (internationally)

to

Download Speed: 1193 kbps (149.1 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 381 kbps (47.6 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 25 ms
(a few minutes later locally)

This is far from 4MB and simply streaming a youtube video becomes a pain...!
If it continuous like this, I will also be canceling my subscription... :(

Much better:

To all Afrihost staff

Thanks for the excellent ride so far.

I was very impressed with the level of service I received from Afrihost. And I was glad to be a part of the cheap broadband revolution.

Sadly, our ways will have to part here.

I wish you guys all the best in your future endeavours, and I sincerely do hope that you get to fix your new network properly.

Kind regards, and all the best

Expect them to bounce back.

Form is temporary, class is permanent.

One of life's most important lessons.

Yep agree.
Their execution has at times been poor and not well thought out but they always get there in the end.

Afrihost have been at the forefront of driving prices down in the past 5 years and for this I am very appreciative.I am sure I will be back early next year when their network has settled.

I already have signed up for Mweb.

I will make use of the three months' free offer from AH, and see what I can do to assist/help them from my side. Keep in mind I will be very straightforward, and will keep nothing back. No use sugar-coating something you don't like, is there? :)

End of April I shall make another decision - Mweb or Afrihost.

But we shall see, I suppose, we shall see.

Okay, so remember when I said I would get back to everyone by end of today - that may have been a little ambitious on my part :(

Still dealing with all the mails coming through and queries. If you PM'ed me before NOW, assume it's all a go, and please proceed as per the PM. Many of you will start getting responses from me, with some more details about how it's all going to work. I may only be able to reply to everyone by tomorrow, but will be burning the midnight oil to make sure I can include as many of you as possible.

Now that my PM inbox is kinda kaput, if you need some priority support or assistance, easiest way to reach me is [email protected], and I'll make sure I respond and reply.

Thanks for the patience, guys :)

what is happening???? this morning speeds were atually quite good internationally, except for the one or two disconnects, but now 3 disconnects in less that 10mins... gaming is no longer

Yeah, I've just had a handful of mini-disconnects as well. I'm guessing it is Afrihost playing with their settings. Both times I tried, traceroutes end inside MTN's network.

Had another 30-second 'disconnect'. Still connected, PPP still up, but traceroute ends inside MTN's network again with a 'network unreachable' ICMP reply.
