Since yesterday I'm trying Mweb's 7 day free account and it is way better. Speedtest is about the same.
Downloads better as well.
Will try it for another few days and then make a decision.

Speeds were great from 0h00 until 08h00. Now i'm back to 30kbps.

Looks like I'll have to do my downloading late at night.
 
Not since the days of dial-up have I experienced images actually visibly loading from top to bottom. Everything else seems OK...

Lol. You guys still think they are going to fix it in the evenings, etc. Look at the evidence, you are going to be shaped from 8:00 - 24:00 and only between 24:00 - 8:00 is the service unshaped. Didnt take me long to realise this. Thats their policy, but they obviously wont tell us that because all other ISPs having heavy shaping for max 9 hours a day (during business hours) and they "might" look bad. The fact that it works hour to hour is BS, because at exactly 24:00 mine went faster and at exactly 8:00 it slowed down. After a week of that I knew what they were doing. Its too clear to be a coincidence....

And many posts on this thread can back my findings up. Just go through a few pages

I don't mind downloading from news servers after midnight, in fact my NZB is setup to start downloading @ 23h00 and stop @ 07h00, however normal http downloads during the day still seems to be on the slow side specially on a 10Mg line
 
Last night (way after business hours) I was pegged at half my account speed while downloading completely legitimate content over http. As it stands, I've done 5 gigs this month. I really hope it isn't considered an abusive amount :erm:

I am not impressed.

Yeah same,I can live with NNTP and Torrents shaped to death during the day,but at the moment it's HTTP downloads and NNTP. My Torrents never miss a heartbeat
 
So we've had clients since 1910! That totally made my morning (and the chick on Twitter who wants to dry hump Afrihost) :)

Sounds like things are a little more stable than yesterday and Monday. I know there are still a few guys unhappy with downloads, and we're going to do everything we can to improve this until our additional capacity comes online.
 
I have been lurking this thread for a few weeks now, but haven't commentd until now, as I didn't have a good background to base my opinion on. What I can say is, the throttling, currently, is terrible on my 4mb uncapped line. When I first joined Afrihost (the last week they were on the IS netowrk) I was getting anywhere between 400 - 900 kb/s (no jokes, dont know what was going on there) on my 4mb line! Now, if I'm lucky, I get 300kb/s as my max speed. This is for HTTP, NNTP, Torrents.... everything basically. Torrents are by far the worst, with my max download speed reaching just 210 kb/s in the last 2 weeks. Afriman, could you please look into this for me? I really dont care much for P2P but I would like to stream some HD content every now and again ;)
 
300kb/s is actually really good for a shaped uncapped 4mb account. You can hardly expect full line speed on a shaped account.

I think people expect (and not unfairly) to have similar performance to what they had before the MTN move.
I got full line speed pretty much 24/7 then.
 
So I've been on Afrihost capped line due to me downloading at about 0.5kbs for almost 3 weeks and all was fine. yesterday i think the capped credentials they provided to me stopped working , so i went back to my normal uncapped account , downloads are at 5kbs which is rediculous. can you please advise if you can supply me with new capped credentials until you sort out the uncapped ?

Agree. "Similar" is the key. When I started using AH, I got a 384kbps account. Everything always worked 100%, so I upgraded to 1Mbps or 2Mbps (cannot remember). Things were always 100%, so again after some time I upgraded to 4Mbps (which is the max my exchange supports). Everything worked 100% until the move to MTN...

I do not care much about torrents running at whatever speed during the day. If I need to download something big, I will schedule it at night. What does however annoy me a little after the move is the slow http/browsing speeds during the day and week nights. Last night Speedtest showed I get less than 50% of speeds of what I consider max speed on my 4Mbps line. And things are really erratic. It's not a stable surfing experience like it used to be.
 
I get good speeds if I buffer a Youtube video, and I also get about the same torrenting (during the weekday, mind). However, I'm currently trying to download a software update, and I'm not going any faster than 16KB/s. It has been like this for me for the last 3 days now. Any http download is just extremely slow.
 
I'm down to 15kb/s on my P2P at the moment.... VPN into my machine is painfully slow too!
