Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Feedback

Could I ask the guru's of this thread:

I'm presently weening off mobile broadband and thinking of getting Afrihost uncapped ADSL. One of my main consumption issues is Steam game downloads, 8ta's 10gb isn't even enough for some games these days :)

How well does Afrihost fare in providing a steady download for steam content? Which line speed would be recommended for gaming use inclusive of downloads like these, 1, 2, 4? My pockets aren't lined in cash so I'd like to go the economical route, but would like to select a line that isn't uselessly slow either.

Thanks in advance for any reply.

Regards
Willem

I'm on a 10meg uncapped and with the steam sale I'm doing a fair bit of downloading. Averaging between 700-900kB/s.

Presently downloading some patches via my 8ta 10gb dongle, getting speeds from 200kB/s to 500kB/s average, with some 900kB/s - 1MB/s spikes, however, on for instance a 2Mbps afrihost connection, what would I average then?

10Mb line..............So for me, worse than ever. Nothing running in the background.

Gmail and youtube are stupid slow, and have been since the move. Could someone perhaps have a look at this for me Afriman? And no, I don't expect it to happen now over Christmas, I am not one of those guys :) But when you have a chance.

Not sure what's up today - been good all week but today DLs are 1/3 of normal speed.

Test conducted on 25 December 2012 15:58
Download Speed: 548 kbps (68.5 KB/sec transfer rate)
Upload Speed: 207 kbps (25.9 KB/sec transfer rate)
Latency: 234 ms

Merry Merry to all those who celebrate...
@Afriman - may the New Year be easier for you, than these teething problems

Afrihost running smoothish.

I have done 118GB this month on 1MB line, with data split pretty even between Youtube and Downloads. Youtube mostly streams on 360p with minimal buffering.
I am almost a happy customer.

Afriman, there is something seriously wrong. The last week all my speedtests are connecting to Cape Town instead of Jhb, and my downloads have been running full steam.

I was able to play BF3 on my PS3 (European Servers) and I was getting owned more because I suck instead of latency for one.

So you might want to tell your tech department to break things again ...

????

I can get them to break yours specifically if that's what you'd like for Christmas :)

Merry Christmas Everyone (if you celebrate)!

Hope you guys had a great day eating loads of food, plied yourselves with excellent drink, and most importantly had a healthy serving of Pure Internet Joy!

All the best :)

I've had nothing but disconnects every 5-20min randomly for the last 36 hours. ADSL desyncs and reconnects about a min later. It's is REALLY killing my gameplay on my slight bit of leave before going back to work. Really not cool -_-

I had to use 3G to play a stable game of Battlefield 3... (That's right, a game + stable + 3G in the same sentence...)

Maybe a port issue on your exchange?
