Afrihost Uncapped - Very Dissapointed

To say i am disgusted with Afrihost's uncapped service is an understatement :mad:

I have been a loyal customer for the last 2 years on there capped service and have been very happy, so thought what the hell, lets give uncapped a shot. So got it towards the end of last month. Everything went perfectly well for the first 2 days, but at soon as i hit 15gig (stupid lotro and its book updates), i was shaped on my 4mb line down to 384k line speeds. I mean seriously, im paying telkom for a 4mb line and im only able to use 10% of it cause of Afrihost...wtf?

Needless to say i have canceled , pending end of this month, and what a right choice that was, because even today being the 1st of the month, i am still running at a measly 384k(38kbs) line speed. My data has reset and i am still stuck at this ridiculous line speed on my 4mb line for the rest of the month , this is totally unacceptable. Here is the response from there support.

'Kindly note that the uncapped accounts do not reset at the begining of each month as it is monitored on a hour to hour basis based on the bandwidth used and the network. If the network is busy then the higher users will be managed first. Once the network is less busy then the accounts will be reverted back to the original speed. Hope this helps you.'

So even now 10pm Friday night the network is 'busy', still running at 384k(38kbs) - total BS

anyway sorry for the wall of text, but thought it would be good to warn users before trying Afrihost's uncapped service, its not worth it!

Gonna look at Mweb/Openweb/Axxess for next month and see which has a package that will suit my needs.

Hehe. That is why I'm staying the heck away from these uncapped accounts. Some people seems to feel that mweb is the best option, but I have not had enough experience with them to give a proper verdict. All I know that the common denominator for me with the uncapped accounts I've used to date was.... timeouts.
 
Stay away from axxess!!! their uncapped account is just as bad!! I upgraded to uncapped express+ & it's rubbish will be moving to another provider!

Oh & don't be fooled by the 24Hr help line then never answer no matter what day or night it is!!

My money is going to do the talking!!

must agree on the support, nothing worse than offering a service and not providing support for it. I will say at least Afrihost responds to support tickets in an acceptable time, but they offer no solution just a vague explanation that the service is working as intended..lol

So axxess is a not then, narrows options down to OpenWeb/Mweb.

Yes i think i will give MWEB a go next month, What i cant believe Afrihost is doing is throttling my line speed to 384 even before any usage. So basically the 4mb uncapped they advertise is false. Time to report this to ASASA me thinks.:wtf:

Total BS, I confirm. It seems some "specially learned monkey" sit and cut traffic and more important, never return speed back! Completely disappointed with such behaviour... Just imagine: you come to bar and order beer, but barman put only half of glass: "Sorry, sir, today is too much clients, we economize beer!". Ha-ha! :) Same stupid is all those ISP - trying to make money making no investment to MINIMALLY ENOUGH HARDWARE.

Agree, even if half of all clients start downloading "Sex in city", bandwidth must be enough to say "network is free".
 
Also used Afrihost for quite some time now, so switched to their uncapped and cancelled a couple of days later. Got a MWeb uncapped the next month and been using that since without any issues :)
 
I've been with Mweb uncapped now since March and what i find is during the day, especially office hours, everything flies, but come night time and the later it gets the slower things become.
With most other ISP's it's the other way around.
 
Using a 50GB capped account from Afrihost atm.. working very well. Uncapped isnt that awesome.
 
Its strange that we are seeing varied results - I'm having fun with my Afrihost uncapped account.
How many gigs have you downloaded?
 
JvanD I'd love to know how much you've downloaded! My Afrihost account was throttled to dialup speeds (5Kb/sec download max, and 100% dead during the day) when I got to about 5 gigs. Totally useless, falsely advertised and as soon as I asked them about it, was launched into a 10 day long support hell.

Needless to say they're long gone from my life. I still maintain they stole my money and are not in the least bothered about it. They started so well but really I have no other words for Afrihost now other than awful ones.
 
I'm also having totaly crappy speeds on afrihost 4mb uncapped :( I was at rage, came back on sunday and can't even watch a youtube video properly.. I can't belive i just paid R500 for this ..

on 384 line. AM I being shaped to **** or what? everyone else seems to get 0.33mb/s. My upload is faster than my download.

OK, so it's on a 4mb line & I haven't raped the account... I only switched from a 15gb capped this month, so we'll see how it goes. If it goes udder up before the end of the month, I'll drop it like it's hot.
