Afrihost Uncapped - Very Dissapointed

:p

OK, so it's on a 4mb line & I haven't raped the account... I only switched from a 15gb capped this month, so we'll see how it goes. If it goes udder up before the end of the month, I'll drop it like it's hot.

Well the whole night now i've been getting 384k speeds.. Can i get R300 back??...

I am on Afrihost 4MB account and have downloaded 25 GB's so far this month. Speed is generally between 1 and 1,5 MB per torrent download, as for HTTP it downloads at varying speeds from .50 MB/s to 4MB/s depending on data [rapidshare vs ubuntu downloads], so the speeds are varying depending on protocol but all round I don't have an issue. Youtube works fantastic no buffering and it is awesome with my mediabrowser I can watch upcoming trailers and previews with minimal to no buffering and I play WOW on this account although through a proxy and I am steady between 300 and 400ms. I don't leave my computer on 24/7 and only download over night between 23:00 and 5:00 am.

Well just to update, been back and forth with there support since beginning of the month and still all i get is BS from there side. Basically i have been pre throttle this month. from day one 384k speeds.

this is with less than 100mb usage on the account, been having to use my WA capped account cause 384k on a 4mb line is just unacceptable. Will keep fighting with them, cancellation on all my services (capped+uncapped) still pending end of the month. I wont accept being sold a product them given something else. We can all understand fair use policy, but when does it become ok for them to go 'hey he looks like he may be a 'heavy' user this month, lets Pre Throttle him so he cant get his moneys worth'.

Sorry to say but even after 2 years of using there capped service, i will never touch one of there products again. Stay out of the uncapped market, all you are doing is pissing people off and loosing customers on the one product you were actually good at - capped.

JvanD I'd love to know how much you've downloaded! My Afrihost account was throttled to dialup speeds (5Kb/sec download max, and 100% dead during the day) when I got to about 5 gigs. Totally useless, falsely advertised and as soon as I asked them about it, was launched into a 10 day long support hell.

Needless to say they're long gone from my life. I still maintain they stole my money and are not in the least bothered about it. They started so well but really I have no other words for Afrihost now other than awful ones.

I have done roughly 7.03 GB but not seeing a slow down of the service as such. Day time is the worst for any service provider i reckon.

Dude, I feel that way about AXXESS ... the love to shape to the ground. Were you previously on Afrihost uncapped and maybe started this month with a bad IS star rating to be shaped or throttled so much?

The main thing is the should show us what the star system looks like .....

I'm still getting the same speeds, so same things here...

I'll switch to mweb next month..

This is the first time i get over 0.1 mbs when using speedtest.net. Also i am getting +- 33kb/s now on dowloads. so I am not too shaped this morning. This is unacceptable.

I'm on afrihost 384k uncapped for the 2nd months. Total nonsense, they switched me to 'IS' server and under its fair usage policy and at most during office hours I get 15kb download speed at maximum. It speeds back up at around midnight but I did 11 gb in 9 days. So the service is kinda okay but it's unusable, feels like I'm on dial-up.
Cancelling this month and switching to mweb.

Was considering uncapped, but i'll stick to capped. Whats essentially happening is you guys are paying for a premium account, it's still capped at 15gigs or so, but when you hit 15 gigs you pay for snail speed uncapped. Rather pay for 15 gigs, then save that extra R300 that you can hardly make use of.
Damn... uncapped seems to be the biggest ripoff in SA. I'll gladly stick to my capped, unshaped account :)
