Hey

I just want to know about afrihost's uncap, because I know about Mweb getting really slow a certain hours, but ok speed at some other time..

Just want to know if Afrihost is the same or is it better.

And if I want to get uncapped, which company is better to go for?

Thanks

Afrihost shapes the connection rather hectically during office hours, and when you get into the top 20%, you really start suffering even after hours. Don't know about MWEB though...

Note: I don't even do more that 10g per month.

Yes, after midnight, things speed up with Afrihost if you are in the top 20, until 7am mon-fri. this morning (Sat) approx 9am my nntp newsgroups came down at approx 350KB's from Astraweb. Looks like they open up over the week-end. Mon-Fri evenings I get 50KB's then I stop and carry-on after 6am to 7am.

Go Mweb... As much as I still cringe when I suggest them to people, it is the best uncapped ISP, imo.

MWeb slowed down this weekend

Usually always got over 400kB/sec after hours on Astraweb with Mweb uncapped ADSL , now this whole weekend so far its between 150 - 175 kB/sec !

Im getting 20kb/s on a 4mb uncaaped mweb downloading from hot file. This realy sucks
That is mainly hotfile. Also seem to be getting slow speeds from them. A lot of people all over complain about hotfile. Rapidshare is fast but expensive right now.

Since Afirihost moved me onto the IS backbone for being a heavy user I’ve had no problem with the account. So I'm pretty happy with my 4meg uncapped at the moment. But I have to ad that I only use my account at night between 7pm and 6am during the week and on weekends, so I can't really comment on the performance of the account during working hours, which I assume will be slow.

Here are some daily usage stats for the month:

What do you guys mean by the Top 20? Top 20 people?

I see..

For some reason I was actually thinking of going to Mweb, because it's just more "known" if we can put it that way..

But just want to check before i make a choice :P

Wow, mm.. Mweb going down?

Anyway, I was reading something of Afrihost, it says that if you use too much of their "uncap" then they will slow down your line..

Have anyone heard of such thing? Because if it's true, then it would really be a S%iT contract!

I know what you mean, but Raipshare is fast even when it's free, I mean compare to the other downloading websites, like megaupload only goes to like 50, and hotfile as well.. Raipshare goes to 100 the once I was downloading..

Afrihost is best for capped. Not uncapped. Rather go MWEB or pay more for OpenWEB GOLD.

My experience with Afrihost was dreadful. I had much better luck with OpenWeb. Highly recommended.
