Afrihost useless

Thanks, perhaps Mweb is the way to go. Axxess is introducing a new uncapped unshaped(not for heavy downloaders) account from the 1st of August, so might give it a try and if it fails me I'll move to Mweb.

Ther "NEW" AUP sucks!

Last month my speed was acceptable up until I hit the dreaded 60Gb mark.
According to their policy the speeds would be throttled to 1Mbps on a 4Mbps line, but I only got 384-512 at best.
I gathered that from the new month the speeds would be up to the 3.8Mbps again, but to my surprise they have a "new" AUP in place. Herewith their reply to my support ticket - my reply tho them, obvious of a pee'd off user that was just used by them!
Hi

This AUP sucks! I have just cancelled my subscription and also posting a copy of your “new” AUP on a public forum for other prospective subscribers to see what they will be letting them in for!
Looks like I will still have to suffer your poor AUP for the coming month, but thank God, then I’m done with AH forever!

Regards

Subject: [#RHW-xxxxxxx]: ADSL 4096 uncapped package throttled

Hi xxxxxxx,
Thanks for your mail.:)

Kindly note that according to our new AUP for our uncapped account. We are now shaping previous months heavy use's ,until the usage level drops to allow everyone on the uncapped solution fair usage.
Please can you view our new FAQ's on our website for further info.

Thank you and take care.

Have a great day & please feel free to let me know if I can be of further assistance.

Warm regards.
I really suggest that anyone considering AH as uncapped ISP, would re-think their options.
So far MWeb looks like the one to back - shaped during office hours, but at least not throttled!

Same here

Slow speeds but paying for the 4096 kbps account, they say that they reserve the right to keep on throttling you based on the previous months stats, what a load of horse shait, you are paying for x and get y, the new T&C came out after I joined so if the can change them without consulting me why must I pay. Bottom line is I am out of here.

I don't know about you guys but their smilies at the beginning of each mail annoys the crap out of me! And "NoRulez" , i really think you should put that up on hellopeter. I think it is absolute bull that they will throttle us based on previous months downloads. Last month I went just over 60gb for the month and was wondering why i've been getting 512 speeds on my 4mb line! not even 1mb! In my eyes its daylight robbery. They were ok at first but now their service has deteriorated terribly, Im so glad I cancelled, they could never really give me straight answers when I mailed them. I hope my next ISP is gonna be much better than Afrihost....Afrish**

Afrihost

I have only been able to get speeds of 250kb with afriscam for the past 2 months. Seriously thats 6.25% of what I pay for. Perhaps when I was signing up they explained that they don't just throttle accounts they strangle every bit of life out them I wouldn't have bothered.

I got better speeds on my 384 line with them, upgrade to a 4mb and they just hammered me senseless.

Oh well stuff them I'll be moving to another ISP no need to support them and there garbage automated response system that churns out filth about monitoring the network on an hourly basis. The only monitoring they do is to make sure your account has not magically come back to life, if it has they'll smack it with a sledge hammer.

BASTARDS

Uncapped 384

DL: 0.6 kB/s
UL: 15.3 kB/s

Yes - those are the right way around!!!!!!!!!

Hey moggie,

Give Axxess a try, every month there's some issue with Afrihost. I was with them from January but called it quits on Saturday. I can handle shaping but not throttling. My signup with Axxess took less than three hours and everything is going smoothly so far, and it's R1 cheaper! :)

Just received an email from Afrihost, anyone else?

Your uncapped ADSL account ([email protected]) is unfortunately one of the 'high usage' accounts that's been affected by our new Bandwidth Management system we implemented in July.

Please read this email carefully to see what we've done to improve your account's performance going forward and what you need to do now to take advantage of this.

How has this affected your account?
In July we changed the way we manage our Uncapped clients - While we knew this way of managing our bandwidth would give most of our clients a better overall experience we also knew it would affect the performance of our "highest usage" uncapped clients.

(In case you missed it I've included a copy of the email I sent through in mid June explaining all this in detail)

In the last 30 days you have moved 93.986 GB and as such are one of our "highest usage" accounts. This means that you are automatically subject to our Bandwidth Manager system whenever our capacity is stretched and thus your overall performance has been - and unfortunately will continue to be - slower.

So what's the good news?

Based on the fact that as a 'high usage' client your bandwidth will continue to be managed by us and based on your download and usage patterns we believe that an Uncapped ADSL account on the Internet Solutions (IS) Uncapped Realm will be better suited for you. We have thus created you an Afrihost-IS Uncapped ADSL account that'll make use of their reseller uncapped package.

These uncapped accounts are the exact same packages currently being resold in the marketplace by all IS resellers. These accounts will be managed by IS and make use of availalibilty across their network. I'm confident that, even though this product is also shaped, it will be more suitable for your higher usage and downloading needs.

I just lol when I read all your comments..... I got hit with the new system in June already (some techies there denied it, others confirmed it), didnt bother using them at all in my notice period in July, happily onto MWEB. Yip MWEB shape the hell out of you during the day, get a measly 5 - 12 kbs on Rapidshare or Hotfile in working hours. But the speed is not throttled for Http. Youtube still works, my gaming works. So I can live with that. I can still manage 100gig tho on Mweb, thats enough for me....

Hmmmm.. maybe it's time to move to MWeb....

have to agree with most of you. i only have a 384 line and waited patiently for seacom to be fixed. but sometimes gmail takes ages to load. gonna consider moving now.

anyone thinking of using afrihost is wasting their time, with all their shaping and throttling systems they are pretty useless for anything right now.

i phoned in about slow speeds and they said their speeds will improve with this new system, then seacom went down and i waited patiently, now seacom is restored im getting 0.10kbs download speed. on a 4mb line, change over to axxess prepaid and what ya know. full speed.

im moving over to mweb from the 1st so i hope i get better service from them

I Just use them for gaming and sometimes watching youtube video..

I find their latencies a lot more stable than Axxess Lite R19 per gig.. (which I use for downloading the odd gig or 4)

Don't use afrihost for downloads please I wouldn't like to see you noobs affecting my gaming experience

Got the same letter. Since moving to their "IS realm" the speed is much better, even during office hours. They are IS resellers anyway...
