Afrihost Vodacom Fixed 5G thread

yea good luck then, change provider, afrihost wont show interest in fixing any sort of mobile connection, not a priority for them
Hate to say it, but I agree with you. I am a loyal Afrihost customer but their LTE/5G services really are not that great, especially if you want to use if for anything business related, but to be fair they don't sell it for that purpose.

I've tried both Vodacom and MTN 5G (via Afrihost) at a new branch but it's either a mess with CGNAT or routing and high latency. I then tested a normal MTN sim-card and got a normal public IP and latency was near perfect, got a corporate package via MTN with 1TB data p/m and it's working fantastic.

I wish Afrihost, at some point, will focus a bit more on the business side on things, surely they have the capacity to do so?

I agree it has been almost two months with these issues even now my latency shot up to >1000ms and 20% packet loss. How is that an acceptable connection.

I have cancelled this package and moving to Cool Ideas

Speedtest at 150mbps, but many websites load soooo slowly it's barely working! niceeee! definitely looking around for my next internet package.

@Afrigirl does Afrihost not have enough international bandwidth provisioned? I'm definitely picking up a pattern that's anything that goes international seems to be struggling.

Internet down again today. How has there not been a Mybroadband article written about how terrible this product is.

People should just mass cancel this product, never had such a poor performing connection in my life, my ADSL was better than this

Nope I struggle to load MyBB too, Enca etc general browsing is pathetic even YouTube is bad

I feel like that's sort of the right idea. That would definitely explain how speedtest (local servers) and youtube (local cached) work great for me, but some other sites not.

I suppose if I noticed my connection struggling and then did a speedtest to a local server and then selected an international server and compared the speeds that should help pinpoint that as an issue?

I just feel like anytime someone has LTE/5G internet problems people just turn around and say "bad signal" or blame it on the tower capacity or something like that. But that doesn't explain how I can get decent speedtest results but bad performance to many sites.

My Speedtest results are the full 50 I pay for but packet loss in the 20-25% latency spikes to 100-1000ms is not on, already signed up with Cool Ideas, arranged the order for month end so will be off this horrible package soon.

For YouTube most videos struggle to hit 720p no matter what and some go to 240p possibly due to the packet loss.

Not sure what is happening with Afrihost as my fibre line at home is also showing signs of packet loss anywhere from 1-5%

I'm cancelling next month. I simply will lose my sanity if I'm told to reboot or send more screenshots of CMD trace routes and ping tests. At this point half my desktop is screenshots of that. This product is terrible and I shall never use this ISP again.

Anyone thinking of getting this, use a carrier pigeon instead.

Hmmm, honestly that didn't go as expected.

correct - speedtest very fast - browsing and videos calls are an issue.

Hi all,
We currently have an open escalation with Vodacom regarding poor performance on our APN. Our team is actively engaging with them to investigate and resolve the issue.

We apologise for the inconvenience experienced.

@Afrigirl - could it be with fibre also? I've seen low bandwidth on both AH Fibre and AH Vodacom for last few days to our corp server in Europe. less than 1Mps vs Telkom 18Mbps

Yes, Tuesday evening there was an impact on international traffic. It was cleared yesterday around lunch time.
There was a big dip for DBN and JHB Transit at around 22:30 last night. It does look a lot better now. Openserve transit and issues in CPT seem to have resolved now.
