Upgraded to 20mb vdsl.

Uncapped options too expensive.

Looking at 300gb account.

Which isp is the fastest and reliable?

Will be using news servers, youtube.

Web Africa by far.

What's negative about Afrihost? I've tried WebAfrica and their capped products are fantastic but just curious about Afrihost.

I can't speak for Gauteng (Northern area) but down in the South there are constantly capacity shortages. In the evenings the throughput is erratic and I forever have small amounts of packet loss. I haven't had any of these issues with IS accounts or my Vox account.

I vote Web Africa, had only good service from their capped accounts with downloading and streaming and everything else. Downloads are shaped slightly in the day but that is fine because you get night data to use for downloading :) You are in Durban, so Afrihost probably won't be an issue either. I have a friend on an Afrihost capped account and their account does well for streaming and downloading. Afrihost have a double data special currently running on their capped products, so who knows what will happen after this special ends, but at the moment they are really cheap (along with Axxess)

This is the difference between Afrihost and a real unshaped ISP account. I tested with an NNTP download, ran the first half with Afrihost account then switched over to my other ISP and completed the download.

I also gave the Afrihost account a much better chance because I used both the Afrihost news server and my international news server for the Afrihost test, with the other test it was only the international news server being used.

Real unshaped:

Why the h a capped account gets shaped I'll never understand. When I decide to buy x gigs why won't some ISPs allow me to eat it all in a day if I so wish and my line allows??

Wow. :wtf:

I guess Afrihost is only really unshaped for users like me that only have 2Mb-4Mb lines. That explains why they're so much cheaper than everyone else.

Afrihost and Webafrica both have free for life 1 or 2 gig options, I tested with both.

My personal findings (Also upgraded to 20mb VDSL) were that streaming and single connection downloads were superior with webafrica. As soon as anything involved 2 or more connections or gaming there was no difference.

Remember congestion and the IPC capacity play a large role in the performance so what may work for another may work better for one wont necessarily work better for another.

Go out and test :)

I also have both an Afrihost and Webafrica capped account.

Webafrica is the better of the two. Afrihost is not bad at all. I just prefer Webafrica and use the Afrihost
account as a backup account.

Very happy to hear that you guys are loving our capped accounts :D Don't forget guys we're still giving away an extra 50gb anytime data on all capped accounts (excl. free account) for June and July.

Do the capped pro accounts also get an extra 50gb ?

All capped accounts except the 2gb accounts and old legacy special accounts like the Red Africa and MyBB accounts. Let me know if you have not received it.
