Hi guys,

I'm thinking of canceling my WebAfrica 5GB shaped account and move to Afrihost. Besides the pain of letting everyone know me new e-mail address, could you please tell me if Afrihost would offer the same kind of service levels? Obviously their 5GB shaped account is HALF the price of WebAfrica's, so that's me reason for wanting to move.

I generally use my cap for normal internet surfing, downloading some stuff now and then and more importantly, for gaming.

Is Afrihost okay for my needs? A R150 a month saving for the exact same product is nothing to sneeze at I think.

WA sucks! Afrihost rule!!

WA never actually cared about their users, and the last time i used them (think it was back in 2008) their support to the users has dramatically started to go under. Now withe the "SPECIAL" they announced to all WA users, they thought the peeps will still pay more than they should and keep you in their web and suck the living green dollars out of your bank. With Afrihost, yes, there are a bit of a problem with their email support system, still waiting for a feedback on a ticket submitted over 70 hours ago, but i think Moshe will sort them out soon.

Comparing the prices, dude, do you really need a reason not to move your account to Afrihost?

We are talking about ADSL, not some shady hosting from host4africa. Have no probs with gridhost, looks like a OK business.

Can't answer your question, you have to decide how much you want to save R150 a month...seriously, what's the question again :D
Anyway, I just wanted to say try and stay away from using the ISP email addresses, rather get something like Gmail, then you can change ISP's without having to "let everyone know your new email address". :)

I recently had to deal with Afrihost support, and they were great. It turned out to be my error (stupid user error i'll admit:P), but they were on the ball, quick to respond, friendly and efficient. We host with WA, but use Afrihost for ADSL. I'd recommend Afrihost to anyone for ADSL (and frequently do):P Haven't had connectivity problems since we got it back when the R29GB special started.

What who.is.michael said above is a good point... if you can, get yourself a cheap domain (cybersmart entry level packages look free / cheap, but i'm sure there are others), and don't worry about having to move your email when you move adsl accounts.

EDIT: what 3com said might be useful... haven't tried it.

Till they get problems with their servers and then its back to step 1 again. Rather get your email free from GPOS (GMAIL), you have over 7GB space and unlimited traffic to send spam out with smtp.gmail. With the free packages offered by cybersmart, you will get capped or charged for using over the limit should you send or receive huge files.

Guess you hit reply before my edit came through:P Good point on the overage...

Not it's not, almost purely because it's got bugger all to do with the topic. What has a domain and webhosting got to do with his ADSL ISP?

:erm:

I believe the reference was about his email address. Of course you could just get a Gmail account, but your own domain is just as feasible from as little as free Rand a month.

:wtf:
He was providing a mail solution. If he said gmail.com would that also be spam?

Not at all, GPOS (GMAIL) is free, why should you wanna pay R 250.00 per year for email hosting when you can get it free? Afrihost anyways give you a free email account with each ADSL package, but to keep your email address away from all ISP`s, get FREE GPOS (GMAIL) account that cost you nothing.

He provided the option of free hosting? Plus you get a fancy @ behind you name. It's merely an option, dude, chill.

<being full of crap>

Digression, but if you read the original question, he did say "besides the pain...", which could be read that he was not looking for email solutions, but JUST ADSL solutions. Therefore the listing of email options is not really answering the question!

Seriously, I think by now 3Com has realised that his intentions were not spam!

Perhaps not, but it's still something to think about :/
