Afrihost vs. WebAfrica

My apologies to all – It was not my intent to hijack the thread.

I didn’t comment on the Afrihost / WA (reliability / pricing) issue; since soon it would not matter - as both are about to reduce pricing again.

Therefore, commenting on the email issue - which I thought to be far more important. (Personally, I would not be promoting a company like Google, rather my own. – referring to the email address domain extension.)

However, currently Afrihost is the most cost effective solution, if you have not applied for the WA My BB Special. (Or haven’t qualified) As for DSL reliability / support; this does not have any bearing on either supplier - as both are resellers of the backhaul ISP’s bandwidth.

Hopefully we will not be guessing much longer.

Regards

Michael

Not at all, GPOS (GMAIL) is free, why should you wanna pay R 250.00 per year for email hosting when you can get it free? Afrihost anyways give you a free email account with each ADSL package, but to keep your email address away from all ISP`s, get FREE GPOS (GMAIL) account that cost you nothing.

Actually, when I registered with Afrihost I got a free domain name for a year! You can point that to gmail, and have the best of both worlds!

I have not tried that one yet, seems i have lost my voucher for the free domain, it comes and goes thru the month on the great freebies you receive with Afrihost :). Thanks for the idea.

Keep in mind Afrihost is only business hours support so if you have an issue on Friday evening like buying bandwidth you have to wait until Monday to get it sorted.

Other than that Afrihost is going to sign up a lot of new customers with their great pricing and easy to understand packages so just make sure you have everything working in business hours.

WebAfrica currently has a very nice client login area where you can keep track of your account usage, buy prepaid data and even see your line authentication details as well as online e-mail setup and management. Does Afrihost offer a similar online client area?

Yes they do and it's better than WebAfrica's client management area.

Wowsers. Okay well then I think it's time to think about moving my money to Afrihost. Times are though and you cannot pay double for something whilst you have other choices.

Matthew Tagg on the WebAfrica Forum says, in reference to Afrihost, that we must compare apples with apples.

So we have two shiny red apples to choose from. Same size, same shape, same colour, same taste. One costs half the price of the other. Which should we choose?

It's not rocket science.

Hi Just a quick question which was not answered yet

Has anyone used the Afrihost account for gaming like Wow

How is the latency and how is the performance compared to web africa

I have my own domain that I host with google apps. So when I send mail nobody knows google is even involved. In fact your google login becomes [email protected]

You just use the gmail client and then your own domain :)

I game with Afrihost (IS) and find it fine. Maybe try 1gb prepaid at R39 and see if it will work for you, also that way you can check out the features on client area etc.

Been with Afrihost since they launch the special and never looked back. I only used the the ticket system once and it work well

I am thinking of getting a couple of Afrihost ADSL accounts and was wondering if from the “client zone” one can set the accounts to auto top up when the run low?
I do not want to be hassled with checking the usage all the time and would prefer that the account auto tops up with 1GB at a time.
Can they be set to do this and would I get emailed an invoice as soon as this happens each time which would be good for monitoring extra usage.

This can be done in the WebAfrica client area and invoices are emailed automatically almost instantly.

Just looked at my control panel now... it has top up and auto top up. Not sure about the invoicing but I imagine it will email the invoice to you.
