I've been with Afrihost for 4 years now I never had an issue with them, until now...
I started renting out my house in Claremont and I wanted to buy an Afrihost Uncapped ADSL Bundle (which also consisted of converting my Telkom line to DSL) - A package I had previously bought and didn't have any issues with. I selected the relevant package on the website and filled in the order form and submitted the checkout order form, but it would never proceed to another page. I then popped open developer tools and found out that Afrihost's server was returning a HTTP 500 status code (Internal Server Error). I reported this to Afrihost and got the usual replies:
"Have you tried using another browser or trying it on another computer"
"Our Checkout is rigorously tested and there's nothing wrong with it" <- I asked the support guy to wager a month of free internet on that statement, because I was sure he would lose.
After 4 days the Afrihost Twitter Team reached out to me and created two separate packages (DSL Line and Data) and assured me that they would bundle the two once they were created, simply ignoring the fact that their server was throwing a HTTP 500.
I was then out of the country for a week and when I got back I found that I had received an email saying that my DSL order was complete and my line was ready to use. I then logged onto the Clientzone and found out that the 2 packages had not been bundled as promised, and I tried to do it and wasn't able to - It would just tell me an error occurred. I reported this to the support team and never received a response (Ticket WUC-754-74337). I finally got a response from the Twitter team and they "got their developers to create a bundle" and credited my account - There's a serious issue with your system if the client or support team can't do this. Up to this point I hadn't used the DSL yet
When I went to install the modem I found that the line was down.I then had a week where the house's telephone line was down. TelkomZA, I hope you're reading this too. The promised repair time was 4 days. It was only fixed 8 days after being reported and during this time someone broke into the house and the occupant (a 96 year old lady) was unable to contact the Police. What's even more concerning is that the Telkom Technical Services Building is 600m away.
Once the line was up, I noticed that the DSL line wasn't syncing. I logged into Clientzone, and there it says that my DSL account is active. I tried to test the line, fix the line and re-create the port - All failed. I then phoned Telkom as Afrihost's support line was closed. I then discovered that the DSL line doesn't even exist on Telkom's side. According to them my line is just a voice line - I feel like I've been conned, I've been paying for over month and I have nothing to show for it.
If this is true then I will except to the credited for the time you've been telling me that my line is up while it actually wasn't. I would also urge you to handle your bugs with more urgency - For I know all these issues could be related to the HTTP 500 your server was throwing, which you casually swept under the rug.
