That is the case - at first I was charged R 163.71 and then on to of that R29 for each gig. My old fashioned arithmentic makes it approx. R58 per gig.

Well there you go then... your answer!
OK, wait but still not sure about the R163... pro-rata should have meant the 5Gb cost you about R18 for the four days + 5 top ups at R29 each. That should make the invoice total R163!
Two options. One, you are reading the invoice incorrectly. Two, Afrihost has made a mistake and you need to query it.

No auto - topped up 1 gig at a time.
Your top-ups are now accounted for but I don't get the R163.71

Not according to what Lancelot worked out for you, check that post again.
The R163 and change... is your 5 top-up gigs x R29 = R145. Plus the R18 for your pro-rata 5GB package

Agreed. I've been with them for three months and I'm quite fond of them. If you have a problem, query it and it'll get sorted. Sit on your hands mumbling and you not only lose out on your money and never find out what the problem was, but you lose out on one of the most reliable (and inexpensive) ISPs in the country.

Another curiosity: Have you checked your bank statement to verify how much was actually deducted by Afrihost in total?
