Hey Guys,

A little problem I've got, I've landed on a 2010 I20 1.6 with 134000km. Drives like new but I'd like to make sure it stays that way.

I'm looking for aftermarket warranties that would cover motor and service. Do you guys have any idea which companies offer good aftermarket warranties and how long that cover lasts, Outsurance offers a motor plan(Insuring the car with outsurance includes a motor plan for under R300 for 5 years/until odometer reads 300000kms) this would be great but I can only get the warranty if I'm insured by them and their comprehensive insurance package premium is R1000 above MiWay and Kingprice.

If you guys have any advice on how to proceed I would really be grateful.

I can't really comment on who to go with. My gripe with them is that they are essentially insurance plans. And because the car is old, coverage is minimal.

So you are paying money every month and if something goes wrong, you need to do a lot of admin with the insurer to get money back, and you will most likely not get everything back because of the limits. I understand having the peace of mind though. I've had a third party warranty twice now. Since it expired,I haven't renewed. They never covered things that break (mostly minor) so I'm not bothering giving them more money.

As for getting a service plan, I find myself wondering how much they will cover, and whether or not just saving that amount will be about the same, or better.

I'd put that R300 in the bank every month and save it up for when repairs are needed.
It's an i20, so if something breaks its unlikely to be a massive expense.
If it was a big suv, a German sedan, a hot hatch or something then I'd recommend a motor warranty.
If you still insist on getting a warranty I've heard the hollard warranty is decent, but no experience with it myself.

You will probably need clutch soon that's about it, parts are cheap for it and does not really give much problems.

Hollard motorxtender. Had it for 7 years on my wife's car, no issues at all.

It's more of an insurance policy than a service plan but the higher plans also chip in for services

Rather put those extra Rands in the bank. I’ve had AA (AMP) for a few years. All great taking your money until something needs to be replaced and you get hit with the “it’s not part of the covered list of parts”. It’s all a scam.
