AION -Please give Feedback

Aion is fresh, new and graphically brilliant.
Playing a Ranger now and up to lvl 15 already, apparently the PvP is where the actions at when we enter the Abyss at lvl 25.

I just don't understand how people can be playing WoW for 2 years plus, I mean granted its a good game but my god aren't you bored/tired of the same thing by now ?

Have played it a bit, agree with the wow meets gw sentiment, haven't levelled very far yet, but it feels far more casual at the moment

Only issue is every now and then i try jump off something and glide in wow, then I have to scrape my hunter up

Almost 3 and half years now. took a break for about 3-4months though. And its only the same thing if you just stick too 1char and 1 side. There are so many options. And appart from that The lore is what keeps me playing. I always loved warcraft and now with meeting Arthas almost around the corner ...well it keeps me interessted. Achievements are kinda entertaining too XD

And wow isnt just a game anyways there is a social aspect so unless you keep too yourself I would understand why it gets boring. Doing fun crazy things with friends makes wow fun. And having a chat too people on vent while questing or what ever makes it more enjoyable for me. After all it is a MMO :P

get what your saying but i couldn't get myself to play wow for stretched periods... always had to take breaks inbetween and eventually after i played WOTLK i realised that i'm done with wow...

playing aion for the past two days now and i'm enjoying it very much... will wait and see how long it keeps me entertained, only lvl 10 now so have no idea what kinda content to expect.

i am hearing that there seems to be a lack of PvE content though, which will definitely hurt this game in the end. having said that, i'm sure nc soft plan on releasing more content pretty soon

The game is designed around PvPvE

Think DAoC

Fresh and new, sure, but only insofar as it looks an plays a bit different. With time, mechanics and graphics grow old and it will come down to gameplay. I tried to like Aion on it's strong points and for a short while I did. But I just can't see myself playing this thing for any period of time. It 'feels' like a shallow, vapid experience. Like it has no meat on it's bones. Perhaps that's a subjective thing, but it kinda feels like they tried to copy WoW but failed to capture the essence of WoW. Like they had a checkbox and ticked everything off except that last one, that indefinable je ne sais quoi.

People may complain about 3 years of the same old same old in WoW but, honestly, I wonder how many will last 3 months in Aion.

I do understand what you are saying, friendships and contacts are created with the time spent in an MMO and that greatly extends the playable life of the game purely from the enjoyment of being online with friends, but it reaches a point at one stage where logging in to chat with friends is all that is driving you and it just is not enough anymore.

Well how long have you played AIon, because its just barely been released here.Did you play the Korean or Chinese version ?I don't suppose you have reached max level and experienced the end game Pvp and Pve.
Is it really wise to judge Aion before experiencing those aspects of the game?I mean yes the leveling treadmill is a tad steep in Aion but as far as I can tell its on the same level as WoW.

You should know yourself as a long time MMORPG player that the endgame is where the Nectar is at,dunno how you can tell its a shallow and vapid experience before you experience the end game.

Endgame is just one part. The game needs to grab me at the outset. Aion didn't. I'm not about to spend hours, weeks, months of my life doing something i dislike, one the off chance that the endgame is fun.

my 2c, a game needs to get both right. I liked WAR because the early game was fun, but the endgame sucked. At the very least that meant I got 2 or 3 months of value out of it. Aoin, for me, was just a waste of 40 euros. Maybe it get's better later, but I just don't have the time nor inclination to wade through a grindtastic borefest to find out.

Well As I said I'm only lvl 15 and as I've heard from various sources the quests do run out, leaving you to grind to get anywhere.

It all comes down to your state of mind, quests are basically just pointing you in the direction you should grind anyway, all MMORPG's are just one bug grindfest at heart no matter which way you spin it. :( (exception being WAR which really did engage you with some PvP in the leveling process, too bad about the end game)

I've heard the game becomes a different beast past lvl 25 once the Abyss opens up, lets wait and see!

Thing is, Wow always has something at every stage of leveling. Hogger, Deadmines, RFC, The legendary Barren's chat, Scarlet Monastry, Sunken Temple, BRD etc., These are all defining moments as you level, some more annoying than anything else, but its almost as if you cant contribute to your lvl 80 raid without having some war story from your early WoW days.

Aion needs to hold a players attention early on. It needs lore. It needs history. And then it needs good enough end-game.

Also, its the community as much as the game play which is required, and this where Wow beats its competitors right now. Its community is much more developed. The other MMO's are building all of this up. Aion has just started. Very very long way to go. I hope they stick with it. Maybe in a year or so, it will have matured into a really good allround product. By then people will have tried it, stopped, gone back or not. Whatever. Every day there is a new potential MMO customer who is choosing which game to play. Because people post on forums that they are no playing x game, doesnt mean the game itself its dying. People will get sick of WoW, WAR, GW, Conan and Aion and some will switch between them, some will stop altogether, but you can be sure that many will start on one of their choosing.

:EDIT: A good start would be for AION to get its own forum, instead of being in the shadow of WoW :D

Without trying to sound apprehensive, the WoW community was one of the main reasons I stopped playing. If I had to read another line of 1337 kiddy speak, self important DPS comparisons and elitist attitude(mostly based on gear) I would have chundered on my keyboard! :D

Lol I doubt any game would be worthy of being in the shadow of the cesspool that is the WoW forums.

You may detect a slight tone of animosity( is it that obvious :p ) in my attitude towards WoW, but I think because of the great success that WoW has achieved, it has brought an unsavory element to MMO's that previously didn't exist(mostly 1337 kiddies who think they are the ****).

When I see the general chat in Barrens and the things people say accompanied by names like Khunt,****y(waanky) and Cleryk it just makes my blood boil, just ever so slightly.

Edit* even our forums edit out those words....

People also have too think that WoW was pritty rough around the edges when it was released back in the day. Aion is just released. It will take sometime too get it up too speed. MMO's shape over time.

But with already shaped games like WoW and a few other MMO's around it might be hard too keep people interested. I guess we will see in a few months from now if Aion is still alive ;P

I just see the same thing happening. A few people (fed up with wow) Bad mouth wow go too Aion enjoy it for a few months and then in the end will be back. Seen it with Warhammer, Conan and Lord of the Rings. Same thing EVERYTIME ;)

hehe

If you have had enough of WoW, then move on. I havent, even though I have been playing for ages. It probably because the part of the community I have seen is okay. I am in a guild with some good people. If Barrens chat made you so mad, you either spent too long there or didnt realise you can shut much of it out. Also, why take them so seriously ? /ignore or turn chat off.

Its great you are enjoying AION. Now all you need is your own forum :D

If Barrens chat annoyed you to the point you quit WoW, you might as well kill yourself IRL, because reality is not much different.

Yes Give Aion forum!

I make that request with a bitter taste in my mouth though, I remember when we requested a Warhammer forum and it failed so hard.

Yes you can shut most of that rubbish out, but it does persist through raids and groups, you can try hide it but its still there.
To be honest though I see similar trends in Aion that I previously described, and it makes me cringe

There is also something else I would like to get off my chest, its not a bite at WoW but just at new MMO players in general and WOW's success. It happened again last night, this time with my brother, something that happens every day that also kind of peeves me off.

He was playing with my ranger for a few minutes and the character was positioned in a way that a melee mob could not reach the ranger while he was attacking the mob at range and then after a while the mobs health would reset to full hp even though the ranger was continuously attacking the mob.
He then turned around and explained to me(he's deaf so he signed it to me) that it was the same as in WoW(in a gloating fashion). He does this on a regular basis( when I played Warhammer as well) comparing everything to WoW, as that was his first MMORPG.

Now there is nothing wrong with this but in his mind( and many other kids out there) everything that is similar to WoW in new MMORPG's was just plained down copied from WoW.He doesn't know that this particular idea/function/content and many many others existed in games before WoW like Everquest,Dark Age of Camelot and even Ultima. He doesn't know that WoW was basically designed and copied based off other MMORPG's that existed before it and simply perfected .As far as he is concerned WoW is the be all and end all of MMORPG's.

So my point is that the new generation of gamers just have no idea of what existed before WoW and this fills the internet with incorrect comparisons and flawed opinions which results in baseless accusations of games being "WoW clones", when in actual fact that is simply an ignorant statement!

Ok, rant /off :p

Dude, it's like saying the Monkees were a Beatles clone when in fact the Beatles were shamelessly ripping off Chuck Berry and Motown. They may not have invented the genre but they sure as hell defined it.

Fact is it's not the real pioneers who will be remembered for defining a genre. It will be the blockbusters who copied and perfected the formula and went on to sell a billion copies. Get used to it, because that's just how it is. Everywhere.

i think Aion is different to be honest... when i got sick of WoW (didn't take long to be honest, got real old real fast... don't see how you can play this game for longer than a year TBH) ..

i've been looking for an alternative to WoW for some time now, didn't look for a new MMORPG to play before i quit, i just quit cause well it was dead boring. kept my ear to the ground and heard of AoC, War and a couple of others, even tried a few out but never went beyond the 30 day mark.

i've tried out Aion and must say i really enjoy it... the graphics are gorgeous and i like the character customisation as well as animations, quests and storyline... i have a few complaints in that i beleive there isn't enough content later on (haven't experienced this as yet) and the world seems somewhat less seemless compared to WoW.. i'm only lvl 10 but i feel like i can't travel from one end of the world to the other without portals etc. i don't like instancing in a MMORPG, well exept for dungeons ofcourse.

back to the point, this is the first real alternative to WoW i've found and to be honest i enjoy it alot more than WoW.

there's alot of work to be done still and i'm hoping that they polish this game up a bit more... i can't put my finger on it but there's something about this game that feels incomplete... ...

still, great alternative to WoW and far superior to blizz's title at the moment... blizz started getting a bit sloppy with WoW.

i'd advise anyone to try this game out.. it's really fun and if NCsoft can add some more content and keep polishing this title it will be the #1 mmorpg out there in my opinion both in quality and subs.

I have my copy of Aion ready... I just havent activated my code yet.
I was warned to hold back on activating the game since there are some heavy issues in the game.

The biggest problems are :

A - Waiting queues to get into the game ( some realms up to 2 hours waiting time to get online)
B - Gold spammers are going crazy... out of 10 messages in the general chat, 8 are spam from gold spammers. They are taking over.

So I am holding back till they clean up the rough edges.

A - has been sorted, after quite of server migration queues have gone
B - I believe they are still working on this, when I login in the evenings I block 2-4 spammers and the rest of the evening is quiet
