Hi All,
Looking at installing a Jet-Air 12000 BTU inverter air-conditioner. Does anyone have any experience with these units?
How do they compare to a similar Samsung unit in terms of power usage / reliability?
I have the unit, its been running since since Feb 2018. Hasnt had any issues. I cant compare it to anything else.
I did feel like if i put in on Auto mode at say 24 degrees, that it should keep the room at exactly 24, but its not 100% in that regard.
Its a chinese brand, you wont find tons of material or support online - so for anything i need to call the people i bought it from (like i wasnt sure about some setting). They service it every 6 months too. Has a 5 year warranty on the external unit if serviced.
For what its worth the installation guy say he feels its a solid brand, and he also installs all other makes.
Asked when I went to view aircons on Saturday.Out of curiosity what is the cost to service an aircon?
Also have this one as well as the 24000btu unit. Works great and haven't had any issues. Installed a year ago with first annual service coming up next month.Hi All,

If you are DIY inclined you can do the basic service cleaning filters and radiators yourself.Services should cost less than R1000 per unit and are recommended every 6-12 months depending on conditions and how often it's used. The more often it's serviced, the lower the service cost. Usually it's just a clean and check. The inverter / no inverter question is a good one. Inverter units are claimed to be more efficient but it depends on actual running time. It could take some time to recover the upfront costs of an inverter unit in most home cases. If you're running the aircon a lot then maybe consider an inverter unit, if it's for a couple of hours here and there then a regular unit is cheaper up front and cheaper to repair.
Inverter units are also more susceptible to damage from load shedding unfortunately.
I would say 9000 BTU is fine for 14 sqm: https://www.airconexperts.co.za/btu_calc.html
Brand wise: Samsung, LG, GMC are all good.
