I want an air conditioning unit installed installed in my apartment.

Anyone know how much this costs (excluding unit)? Anyone know of reliable professional installers in Cape Town?

I am not interested in self installation so don't even go there.

What volume do you need to cover? area & ceiling height.

Those factors are only an slight indicator in the load estimation of an aircon.
Windows, sliding doors etc carry a heavy effect on loads.
Best bet is to get a professional in to calculate the load required and then recommend a unit based on that.
Stay away from Gree, panasonic, LG and if possible Samsung. Daikin is by far the best and normally not that much more expensive.

I think the OP meant that he needs someone to just install the unit.

I.e buy aircon from GAME and get someone to install

In which case I do believe Game have their own approved suppliers who would also do the installation.

I know Tafelberg Meubels operates like that, buy from them and they have it installed.

OP : We've had good service from Airventcape.co.za , but they'll want to sell you the unit as well I'm sure or charge you enough that it doesn't make sense not to buy it from them.

I've been wanting to buy from Makro, but generally their prices excludes installation.

On your second point, you are correct. Generally they want you to buy the unit from them as well.

Anyone know professionals that install only?

The only two makes I am considering are:

Daikin
Samsung

Surely the price difference isn't that great?

Why not just buy from the installer?

I have a few Samsungs at work and they are great but they normally ice up which can be a bit of a pain.
If you can afford the extra then get the Daikin.

I bought a 12,000BTU unit at Builders Warehouse. Sure Air in Gordons Bay installed for R1600. An 18,000 BTU would have been around double the price for installation, apparently the 18,000 and up should be connected directly to the DB board.

Got quoted 7k incl installation for a Samsung. Makro has the same one for R4500 ex install.

Sounds pretty reasonable to me considering the amount of work required.

Doubt you'll get it done much cheaper. Unless you go to a backyard mechanic type solution that doesn't have the desired results.

Warranty is another thing that requires a decent installer.

Seems like the average minimum price is R2,000 (if inside unit is on the same wall as the outside unit).

Does anyone here own or know someone who has the Samsung Q9000? I am struggling to find a review on this unit.
