Aircon insights

1.5m or so ...little higher obviously
Mmm, mine was a little closer than that. It developed black horizontal lines towards the top of the screen. If I squeezed on the right hand side (where the fireplace is) it would light up again. Eventually it stopped working. In hindsight it may have been due to the heat. Got a new TV but no more fires in that fireplace.

I have a Inverter Midea Split AC 9000BTU in my bedroom. Works like a dream. When I bought my house the AC was here. I Have been staying here for 4 years now and not 1 issue. I do get my local AC guys to come service the unit once a year just before the summer heat.

I clean the filters like maybe once every 2 to 3 months.

EDIT: In summer it uses about 3 to 4 units on the prepaid when it runs throughout the night

do you wash your filters ? i used to but then i found out my vacuum cleaner does a good job

Is the AC direct 3.3k price for installation worth it?

Think it's time to replace the 12 year old aircons (serviced once in my lifetime) with some inverter ones.

Also to find a solution for the three other bedrooms, where it's difficult to put the split unit inside on the external wall (due to curtains being there). Not sure putting the unit over the bed is a good idea?

Is the only solution then to put a ceiling vent ? Maybe get one bigger aircon unit i can place on the patio roof and then feed the three bedrooms?

Only issue with the duct type AC's is the temp you set is the same for every room. I found that in my office I like it cold whereas my wife's office is set differently. The demon spawn also doesnt like the cold.

How much distance between the curtains and ceilings..? You probably have more than enough room for the inside unit to be mounted there..

You can have it over your bed, whichever unit you get should have the ability to have the vents blow up and away to avoid the majority of air blowing directly on top of you..

so guy came out now , few things i need to sort out

and also problem now is he says put a black aircon cos of the fireplace ..white one will become yellow quick

and now i need to add more slots to my DB board also

furk it
run your AC on "turbo cool" mode to keep it cool when your fireplace it lit - problem solved

Curtains cover the wall ; top to bottom - side to side - they the black out kind so hence that wall (being the only external facing walls of the room) are out of bounds.

I saw the aircon's with windfree option - they could fit the bill for those rooms :)

That is an absolute beast of a solar setup! With an 8kW Sunsynk and a 22kW battery, you are in a perfect position to run these practically for free during the day.

got a quote for an alliance 18k btu unit fitted for 24k and a midea breezeless for R27k

so for both the labour alone is like 12k

is that normal
i cannot remember what i paid for installation but i bought 2 aircons for my parents ( up and down stairs ) and the installation takes a long time . are you in jhb ? if yes i can send you the number of my installer

That depends on the installation type, lineset lengths etc.. if it's an installation at height, where scaffolding and things are needed, cost jumps significantly..

But, through acdirect, if it's a bog standard back to back install, not at height and don't need lineset longer than 3 meters, their installation cost is 3400rand..

That brings the total to R 18400 for the breezeless midea 18k btu..

mine is literally back to back for the 18k

and about 5m of copper from the one part of the room to the wall thats "outside" where the outdoor will go

no fancy stuff

and yeah AC shows around r3k

does AC also do the electrical or must you do it

also does 12 and 18k need to be on the board or can it be done to a plug point with an isolator
