Aircon re-gas in CT

Been to Battery center and they charge R450 for aircon re-gas! Is this the normal price? Anyone recommend another place that's less expensive?

im serious alot of places i drive past have them on the roadside

the one i know thats always there is on wiking way ...if you coming from epping going towards goodwood its just past the robot by the garage on the right hand side
 
R450 is the going rate and for Pete's sake take it to someone reputable. The guys at the side of the road are simply a waste of money in 99% of the cases.

+1 I've tried the guys on the side of the road once and the aircon worked well for about a month. Granted, a friend found someone next to the road who did know his story and the aircon worked for 2 years after that fill, but think this won't happen often.
 
Roadside guys won't check for leaks etc and a week later you need to regas again maybe because the seals in the compressor are shot.Rather take it to a reputable agent and save in the long run.
Even in winter you need to give the aircon a run of about 5 minutes to lubricate the seals-every few months.

Your A/C system works like a fridge and how often do you hear of a fridge needing re-gassing. Its a sealed system so if it needs to be re-gassed then there must be a leak. So check for that first. If there's no leak then the problem is elsewhere. Rather go to a place and tell them your A/C is not cold and let them tell you what to do. Some people will just re-gas you cos you said thats what you want.
 
Don't just regas get it checked out, I've now got to pay R9000 for my aircon as I didn't get it checked and just got it regassed and the compressor popped.
 
Okay, this morning I went to Helderberg Car Audio & Security CC in Somerset West and they sorted me out for R350 incl. VAT.
I even got to stand with the guy and watch and he explained every step which was very cool.

An air conditioner never needs to be re-gasses unless the gas leaks out, its the exact same system as a fridge. Its a closed system.

If there is a leak, the system can be pressurised with coloured gas to find the source of the leak visually and then the system purged and the leak fixed. Once the system is leak free only then should it be re-gassed.

An air conditioner can be serviced which afaik only involves cleaning and not re-gassing.

I don't see why an air conditioner should ever be re-gassed if there isn't a leak that has first been fixed. Unless you want to recondition the compressor which forms part of the pressurised loop.
 
Well, prior to regassing the A/C yesterday, they made me turn it on, let it go till it's coldest and then after the regassing, I got to feel the new temp - big difference.
