Aircon Regas From VW

you pay for their expertise! Labor is expensive.

If you require a re-gas, you should first be looking at a repair. Air-con gas usually stays put in the aircon, it is a closed system. If it has leaked out, repair it first then you won't need to keep re-gassing it.

Aircon places charge around R300 and they insert some die. Then a week later you go back and they check for leaks, then refill for free if there are leaks.

Please tell me what expertise are you paying R900 for?

VW South Africa will never receive another cent from me. Some of their cars are good value for money, but their after sales service is rubbish and insanely expensive.

they would regas the car and give it a car wash for the R900.... They might even outsource the regas...

Drive down Old Paarl road coming from Parow/Bellville towards Brackenfell, keep on looking on the right of the road till you see a little blue Datsun bakkie.

Have them check it out, make sure they put die in too. If your aircon has a leak, fixing will cost around R500, regas alone is R250.

I had my Polo regassed correctly with the dye in May, for R275 at a respectable aircon fitment centre. The reason you are charged so much by VW is that they take the car to the same fitment centre, and then charge you to do it for you.

Let your fingers do the walking and take it to a decent fitment centre and do it yourself. By the time you've had a cup of coffee and read the paper, the job is done and you are R600 better off! :D

That is asking for trouble, just to save R100. Different compressors use different types of gas. If the wrong type of gas is used the aircon compressor seizes. It's not unheard of for those next to the road guys to use gasses like butane which is completely illegal and incredibly dangerous (butane being incredibly flammable). Not to mention that aircons need the right amount of pressure, too much or not enough and it'll have lower efficiency.

Best advice by far. Yellow pages exists for a reason, use it!

Just found my receipt from the re-gas in May.

Anyone in the Polokwane area should go to Cellular Services 51 President Paul Kruger Street - 015 291 4193. They did a fantastic and inexpensive job on my Polo.
