We're looking to upgrade/replace our alarm system, and don't want to spend too much. We have an old ADT system that one can't even get remotes for anymore. We got quoted R48K by Beagle watch for a Lightsys iRisco system, of which about R30K was new door sensors and PIR units (they can't use the existing ones?)

We need a system with 3 zones - house plus two flats - that are individually controllable, must be linked to Beagle Watch, preferably able to use the existing PIR and sensor units, preferably with some form of app.

Any suggestions?

You should be able to re-use the PIR units, I actually was too lazy to crawl in the attic to lay the same alarm cable which was in really good nick and just installed new PIR sensors. But I also installed outside beams as I dont want to be alerted when they already in the house but when they come onto the premises. In fact I think inside PIR sensors are too late.

Has all the main brands.

Assuming that it is a wired system. the odds are pretty good that it's a DSC unit,

In which case a new 8-zone controller board costs around R2,500

How easy for a non technical person to do this?
I'm more familiar with DSC but if I remember correctly Paradox simply communicates over the serial port to the Pi. So three wires. I think the hardest part is setting it up in Home Assistant.

What did you end up doing ?

We ended up going with an excellent alarm installer, and we got the Lightsys iRisco installed for about R18K, and it's working pretty well. Multiple zones, new sensors, gate sensor, etc.
