They should be evicted as soon as they set up camp. Not allowed to settle, and then turfed out all of a sudden on the coldest day of the year so far. They're still humans...

And humans will respond quicker to being outside in the cold than they will to being outside in the warmth.
 
Who says these things only happen in winter and that its not just that people moan in winter?

Do the courts have a schedule that only allows them to do it (issue eviction orders) in winter?

Should it be done in summer when all the belongings can rain wet and be ruined in the summer thunderstorms?

Should it be done in summer when the "red ant" workers suffer in the heat under their protective gear?
 
It should be done as soon as the land is occupied, as I said.

Probably happens in winter because of year end in municipalities. All those left over funds that couldn't buy enough KFC have to be used. Use it or lose it.

Agreed with Sinbad. Should be done immediately.

And it depends where in the country... in some places (like WC) it'll rain wet during winter. Then they'll get hypothermia and die, too.

the courts grant eviction orders that take the form of ordering the occupant to vacate by a certain date and authorizing the sheriff thereafter to effect an eviction. The applicant to the order can ensure execution at any time after that date that the sheriff is available once it pays the sheriff. This is another thing worth noting a private individual has to pay for the evictions whereas SANRAL is taking the money people are paying over for etolls to evict the Western Cape dwellers - and the ratepayers of the CoCT are paying for the emergency housing which has been necessitated. The ratepayers of the NMMM are paying for the evictions in Uitenhague when emergency housing becomes necessary and the ratepayers of the CoJ are paying for the evictions at Alexandria.

Which is why winter is so awesome. While the chappie at CoJ goes to look for the tent those in the cold will wander off. It's like a self solving problem. Do it in summer and they're likely to hang around while he looks.
 
These people are economic migrants (refugees? :P) who move from rural areas to the metro areas in search of a better life.

Can't really deny them that, can you? The right answer perhaps is for the provincial/metro governments to actually designate a suitable area and start developing it? The flipside of that is that often the squatters aren't happy with the new area and refuse to move there, in which case they can fsck right off :p

except that even on your reasoning the public purse suffers more. The fire risk alone. On your case you really can't complain when you have to incur costs because your private property comes to risk because the State is driving people around.
 
It would be interesting to see a seasonal breakdown of these evictions. Property rights aside, it really does seem like this is an annual event that only happens in winter which seems heartless, or is it just that it's more newsworthy in winter?
