Alienware mx17

Howzit Owies,

My mates dad is in america now and he's thinking of getting a mx17. Its gonna cost him $1700 so +- R12k.

Do you guys think this is a good buy, want to give him best possible advice so he doesnt waste his money,
He did phone alienware in SA and they will cover him for warranty. but ya, yes/no ?

alienware is good buy yes.

make sure you get hd 6990m upgrade or the 6970m.

or you can get alienware m17x r2 with hd 5870m crossfire which can be found for 1600 or less on ebay, as they don't make the r2 anymore , but the r2 had crossfire graphics, which was awesome and can be manual upgraded to hd 6970m crossfire.

the r2 have the older i7 cpus which is still fast , but will be better buy because it has 2 graphics cards.

is one for 1500 dollars , but ya nothing wrong with a new model , just that it only takes one gfx card.

the new msi gt780, will be good buy also at 1600 dollars, with a gtx 570m, 750gb drive, 8gig ram.

gtx 570m is tad faster i think then to the hd 6970m, or about the same.

in terms for gfx performance it would be :

mx17 r2> msi gt 780 > m17x r3 (hd6970m) can add the hd 6990m , but does cost a bit extra.

Also remember that the power supply will probably be for 120v, not our 240v. So he will probably need a new power supply.

Just as long as its not a bad buy, then im sure he's sold. He jol'd crysis2 on the one at incredible connection with 3D, he said it bleew his mind and now he's sold lol.

I have an m11x R2 from states. U only need an adapter for plug. Not a whole PSU.

he wont need an adaptor, the power brick is 110v-240v, just maybe a South African plug
