I'm getting dual 512mb 8800GT xfx Extremes delivered soon with a 700W power supply. Everyone that I spoke to said that a 700W OCZ SLI ready power supply was more than adequate. Only after I ordered the equipment (stupidly) did I check the Alienware site. Their Area 7500 computer can come with dual 512mb 8800GT's. But then the **** hit the fan; the 750W standard psu (50W above mine) was deemed inadequate (My balls got sucked up into my stomach) for the cards and recommended a 1000W psu..... the 750W power supply is not enough....this is more than mine, BY 50W! Am I stuffed or is Alienware paranoid?

Dude, don't stress. I'm running a single XFX 8800GT Extreme on an Antec 430W (with an overclocked E6600 --> 3.25GHz) and my system never draws more than 250W when playing Crysis. Your 700W PSU is more than adequate for SLI with these cards.

Ye, as many have said: Quality over quantity (PSU-wise)

PSU recommendations are very often blown out of proportion.

Thanks for the assurance guys. Ya I think Alienware are just expected to be 'over the top.'

True I won't worry about it my system is running overclocked with a **** load of fans with an Aopen 450W.

Doesn't even break a sweat.

You should be more than fine.

I was reading up about this lastnight, Dual 8800 will require a minimum of 850W if you're running it in SLI

No one good 650watt should do the trick
I ran 8800GTS 640MiB in SLI with a 650Watt but I was using a Dual Core.
