Alize van der Merwe, who was kidnapped in Mthatha in the Eastern Cape on Friday, 20 September, has been released.

The 39-year-old have been travelling on the N2 from East London to a resort in Port St Johns on the Wild Coast.

Van der Merwe’s last communication with her family was around 11:30 on Friday when she mentioned she was planning to stop, likely at the Shell Ultra City in Mthatha.

That same afternoon around 15:13, her family received a call for a ransom.

The amount of the ransom has not been divulged.

"Further reports divulged that the victims are traumatised and have been taken to the nearest hospital for medical attention.”

What will even traumatise them more..

Regardless, I'm relieved they are safe.

Second separate kidnap victim?
It is a gang and they had another kidnap victim not picked up by the press. They had to release her too because if they were caught by the cops with another victim they would go to prison.

Last years there was over 15000 kidnappings. A triple increase over the previous year.

In this latest case they moved on from business owners which are usually kidnapped and taking white collar workers. They dump the hijacked car so cannot be tracked by car tracking companies. Payment is in cash They never show their face to the victim so unless caught in the act are rarely caught.

Followed link to MSN, but noticed this one :cautious:

A mum of five from the West Country has died after undergoing a 'liquid Brazilian Bum Lift (BBL)'. Two people have been arrested on suspicion of manslaughter.

From what I have heard on the grapevine a bad element has crept into the Transkei quite recently , basically city slickers bringing their crime into the bush. There have been numerous hijackings lately in rural areas that it was previously unheard of.
