All about rogues

You will be able to level your skill to 155 in Redridge Mountains by opening waterlogged boxes under water.

After that, Get yourself another water breathing potion and go to the beach in Desolace where you can level your skill to 210.

After that get the ogres in Tanaris to lvl to 250 or so. After that, the zangarmarsh lot should give you a lot too. I forget where to go in between.

Do yourself a favour and create the following macro to replace your sap button..

/cast Sap
/cast Pick Pocket

That way each time you sap a mob, you grab whatever's on him as well... it helps A LOT with gaining a metric bumload of health pots & other interesting apparel.

A combat rogue I know whose dps was +-4.5k switched over to mutilate and couldnt do much more than 2.2k dps until I told her what rotation to use, she then did well over 5k dps in a breeze.
Interesting, what rotation is this? Since I've only played combat in PvE and Mutilate only in PvP. Also I've been only playing 1 month since I started again and haven't really tested everything yet. Also my Mutilate build doesnt have HfB so I assume I need that for PvE.

HaT build looked fun, but looks like it died in 3.1

(although you've played for some time now, so you prolly know a few tricks I dont - as i suck at pvp anyway :/)
Hah nice hiding that, only noticed this line once I pressed the quote button o_o

rogues = stupid, reason : they are WoW in easy mode. stun zap zap stun again zap zap vanish . repeat etc etc etc.

I played combat rogue all the way while leveling and I loved daggers. Combat + dagger = big no no. So i respecced to mutilate.

I have no gear item above lvl 213 (still got 3 lvl 200's)

Opening with Ambush while having Cold Blood active gets me a crit between 6-8k...

If I have 5CP's and activate Cold Blood, I managed to crit up to 12k on a few occasions using Envenom as a finisher.

Mutilate sucks for mobs, but works beautifully on raid bosses. Don't forget your hunger-for-blood buff that adds 18% to your damage when activated.

I raided ulduar 25man this weekend and having never been in there before, I was top 3 dps in a guild that runs it regularly - only classes out DPS'ing me was survival hunters. We were all doing above 5k dps on the bosses.

lol, yeah ... no.

Mutilate is in no way better than combat (PvE). They are both extremely close in dps at the same gear level, they simply work better on some bosses than others. Your choice of whether to go combat or mutilate should depend on which spec you have better weapons for.

I've managed to get over 8k dps against bosses like XT in combat spec (no, without the light orb thing pwning my teamates), but barely 6k with mutilate. There is usually 1 sometimes 2 other rogues raiding in my group, they both play mutilate, some fights I destroy them in terms of dps like the XT fight, others they dominate me. Combat is a much easier rotation to play than mutilate. If you want the best dps with the least amount of effort... combat ftw. If you want max dps with more effort then go mutilate.

I activate cold blood - guaranteeing me a crit on my opening shot, I then put tricks on the tank and open with Ambush - critting about 6-7k and having 3 CP's on the board. I then mutilate to get to 5 and hit Slice & Dice.

Then the rotation starts:

(with S&D active)
- Mutilate to 5 CP's
- Rupture
- Activate HfB (only every 55 seconds)
- Mutilate to 5 CP's
- Envenom (auto refreshes S&D)

rinse and repeat...

The stuff up comes when one of your timers runs out - it takes a while to get it back up and be able to dps again...you start off slow, but your dps climbs gradually as your dots tick down..

Have you ever played a rogue at lvl70/80?

It's not exactly that easy to keep a target stunned AND "zapped" at the same time. It's usually a case of either/or. In order to do the stunlock kill you have quite a bit on your plate to do. Thus far I've only managed to kill 2 lvl80 players while they were stunlocked and still mounted.

Being a melee-dps exclusive class with minimum armor and zero buffs, it's not exactly a pleasant life.

I agree that combat rogues are MUCH easier to play. I was combat spec til lvl 80, but since the combat dagger spec died with TBC I had to change. Call me an RP'er, but I still think rogues should be the dagger type assassin.

In fights where you get interrupted from laying down DPS, combat rogues will by FAR outDPS mutilate rogues.

Obviously you go by what weapons you have, but I'm yet to find a combat rogue with the same gear as me and same item level weapons out dps me in a single target bossfight.

As you said, it just takes more PT to do it...but it is clinically the top dps spec. (Ignoring the fact that combat rogues are by design more versatile on bosses and mobs)

ROFL.

I find playing a paladin 100 times easier.

Don't get me started on Pallies.

I miss shadowstep. That was crazy in TBC in even PvE whilst Hemo could still do decent dps. Nerfs pretty much killed that tree...

Yeah I use as my alt. spec just for stuffing around in questing etc. ... it's absolutely useless damage wise - but works as a decent stunlocker while someone else does the dps.
