Kikizo has learned that the second-generation PlayStation 3 controller is in the works is set to offer more than just rumble feedback - the feature sorely missing from the existing motion-sensing Sixaxis controller, currently bundled with the machine.

In a new interview published today, Sony Computer Entertainment's global President Kaz Hirai said that rumble is "obviously" being looked at now that legal issues with Immersion are out of the way, and then added: "We're also looking at a variety of other things that we can incorporate with the controller, and we'll come out with announcements when we think we have the right mix of features." [...]

More here.

 No I'm not :( :D This one is more recent plus it has the interview recorded :p

lol, yeah but it's old news being re-hashed.... I think

How will it do that?

By Magic :D

 The post I referenced has been deleted... See this is why I blog, so that I can keep track of all the news without relying on others....

Anyway by the sound of it they are just putting different types of motors in the 'handles' of the SIXAXIS. The developer then sends a slow rumble (driving) or a sharp spin (rifle kick) or a bumpy rumble... you get the point ;)

I'm a summing that they have i weight connected to a piston of sorts, so when you fire the gun, the piston moves the weight and when it stops there's a "kicking" effect. But i think they should redesign the control...

Why would they redesign the controller when it's been working since the PS1 days? Good design never gets outdated.

And OT, Gavin, shame on you for saying this:
I am still in two minds about this game [Little Big Planet], I have to play it… there is no doubting that but I am still worried that it might just suck badly.

The SIXAXIS needs a redesign... the same reason we upgrade our cars, houses, [-]wives[/-] whatever.. things get better.

feo, I was just voicing something that has been worrying me.. The game sounds and looks awesome but it has no point. what if it sucks? I will be so dissapointed.... but it could happen..

no one has been allowed to play it for long yet

No worries, I was kidding about LBP, pretty much half of us think it's gonna be a hit and the other half think it's ghei :D This is off topic anyway..:)

Its about gaming in the gaming forum how is it off topic ;)

What was the point again? Oh yeah the rumours about a rumbling SIXAXIS are very strong at the moment so why would anyone buy a normal PS3 now when we know an upgrade is just around the corner?

Hmmm... good point, But you can always buy a rumble remote. As for the design, I'm pretty much tired of it, And i've had a psx, ps2 and have a ps3. so new design will be welcomed by all. and coz it's gonna weigh more, it's gonna be easier to balance with the motion sensor, i seem to find it hard to tilt the control coz i end on moving it more and more up, to the point where i stand, then suddenly realise what an idiot i am, then i do it again...

That's probably why they happy to bundle the extra one in the new EU package - they now everyone is going to have to buy new ones anyway . . .
