All SATA drives show up under "Safely Remove Hardware"

Hi all

Just upgraded to an Intel DH67BL mobo with an i3 2100 CPU & 2x4GB DDR3 1333MHz RAM. Weird thing is, all my SATA drives (1xDVD-ROM, 200GB HDD and a 1.5TB HDD) show up when I click the "Safely Remove Hardware" icon in the bottom right corner. Is this normal? All mobo drivers have been installed. All drives work fine though. Running Win7 64-bit.

Yep, it's normal for Win 7 since Intel SATA controllers support hot plugging for E-SATA.

All SATA hard drives are hot swappable actually if set to SATA mode in the BIOS.

Why would you want to? AHCI gives you a tiny bit better performance.

A massive amount of performance if he wants to run a SSD.

Hot-swap is enabled due to AHCI. Would be stupid to disable AHCI, just ignore the drives in the safely remove hardware screen.

Only if the SATA drive is a SATA II or SATA III drive, AND you have enabled AHCI in the BIOS.

Err, am I the only person that knows that you can disable hot-plugging on a per port basis?

It's in the BIOS...

I have exactly that motherboard in my NAS, Intel Bearup Lake H67. If you have the latest BIOS you can definitely disable hot-pluggin per port.

Nope you're not. I mentioned that there is a setting. I have a ASUS board thou.

Go to the sata drive in windows explorer right click on it. Select properties. Set it on for performance not quick removal
