All things Shelly

What do you mean by confusing, seemed simple to me.

He is going to spend more than a weekend installing those. He as almost double what I ordered and it took me multiple weekends without having to run neutrals.

Almost done now, just need to do the pool pump and pool light now.
Takes long when you do it properly yeah. Took me 4 hours to do one cluster of light switches that required 4 sonoff Mini's.

Just went a bit overboard and bought a few things from Shelly directly since Shelly SA didn't seem to bring in any of these. I don't intend to use any of them wired into my home electrical directly, so not too worried about compliance:
  • Shelly Flood
  • Shelly RGBW x 2
  • Shelly button1 (looks very interesting)
  • Shelly button

They do have the button now here in SA.

In terms of an apartment, I have a friend buying in a Balwin estate and he's trying to decide between Sonoff and Shelly

Any advise on which would be the best choice with regards to:

Reliability
Cost
HA
Google assistant compatibility

Reliability - Same but I edge to Shelly here
Cost - Probably Sonoff, but depends on what you go for
HA - Home Automation or Home Assistant? Kinda the same, but again I edge to Shelly
Google assistant compatibility - Same

It would also very much depend on what your friend wants to automate, what his technical skill level is, what access he has to wiring, etc.

- Lights
- Fan
- Aircon
- Geyser
- Blinds
- TV and other appliances

I'm also interested so the info will benefit us both

We both can follow guides in regards to technical skills :ROFL:

Qualified electrician will be installing all modules

Anyone know if there are logs on the Shelly devices and how I would get them? Similar to the Sonoff console logs

Select the desired room within the Shelly app, you'll see a speech bubble icon in the banner header

On another note, the Button1 seems to be not as useful as I'd hoped.
Since it is battery powered, the wifi appears to sleep when not in use to preserve power. Then when you use it, the first button push fails because it first needs to wake up.

Subsequent button pushes then work

Having said that, I haven't managed to get MQTT working to HA yet - only spent a little bit of time on it though.
I do like it in general though - and if it stays plugged in on my desk for certain tasks then it's a cool little gadget to have.

Got my button1 showing in up in HA when I listen for MQTT messages:

Message 57 received on shellies/shelly_button1/input_event/0 at 4:10 PM:
Code:
{
    "event": "S",
    "event_cnt": 1
}

The "event" comes up as S, SS. SSS or L (depending on number of button pushes) now I just need to figure out what I'm actually going to do with the thing.

I assume that everything gets done via automations, so I'll have to figure it out a bit.

Got my Shelly Button1 working very nicely... have created an automation for it to toggle a lamp on and off to test.

Only downside with the Button1 then is that when not plugged in it takes about 6 seconds for a command to be sent as it first needs to wake up. Not a deal breaker, but worth noting depending on your use case.

Received my 1st button today
Thank you @ShellySA

What you think of it? I think it's a really nice replacement switch for things like lamps. I do wish they would have built in an LED somewhere on the button to show whether the switch is on or off.

I got a battery for my Shelly Flood and just did a basic mqtt addition of the sensor to HA. Still have some setting up to do, but it looks to be a nifty little device.

@ShellySA can only assist with three items ...

Does anyone else know where else I can purchase Shelly ?

I bought a few items from Shelly directly: The button cases, Button1, flood and rgbw units. Good delivery and service, was delivered within maybe 7 working days.

I did opt for pricier delivery, on a order of R2k (including delivery) I paid about R550 in import/taxes to DHL before they sent it out for delivery.
