All things Sunsynk (Deye, Inge, etc...)

Did you perhaps take note of how they connected up the new battery? Asking as I might look at getting a third Sunsynk battery. The cables of both my batteries are currently connected up directly to the terminals on the fuse holder. I do not think there will be enough space for a third battery. I might have to look at the cabling method Sunsynk recommends for multiple batteries.
Bus bar in a box is what I have. I'll send pics tomorrow.
 
Has anyone had their Sunsynk inverter sent into the repair Centre recently? My inverter had a F20 fault come up and did not function thereafter even after resetting the inverter and battery numerous times. Installer came through and also could not get the inverter to work. Inverter has been at the repair center for over a week now. What is the turnaround time now as i know there was issues previously with long waiting periods for the inverter to be looked at?
Herholdts offers 2 week turnaround with a replacement unit if they can't make that timeframe AFAIK.

So now I'm fascinated. I was lying on my bed awake at 3am when LS kicked in. When the lights are on I notice a brief dip as LS kicks in and the sunsynk takes over... not sure if it does that all the time or just when it's not inverting at the time... but I was in the dark when suddenly the ceiling fan got Uber quiet. It usually makes a bit of a hum. I got up and checked and noticed LS had literally kicked in at that second. The fan is still running 100% but it's now wayyy quieter. Would that be down to a discrepancy with the frequency or V? Just curious.

At the time, I was definitely running on battery as battery level was 79% and my system mode is only set to charge at 60. Not sure why the noise from the fan when Eskom is present.

Noises at 3am are often in your imagination!? The obvious question is why you have a ceiling fan on in the middle of winter? (I think you answered that elsewhere.)

Technically the inverter may be reproducing 'cleaner' power, with less harmonic distortion. The hum on mains power may be more noticeable at times when there are low loads on the grid, as nearby devices and transformers produce interference that travels down the powerlines. Just a theory...

The answer to the ceiling fan q is in a nutshell living with a woman and age.

Sounds feasible. I'm sure it must be reproducible to some degree. I'll test later.
 
Anyone know how Sunsynk define battery cycles and if there is a limit to how much "discharge" there should be per battery per day? Specifically the 5.32kwh battery. Whether for warranty purposes or even just general battery health purposes.

Battery cycle should be defined the same way anyone else does it - 100% discharge and charge of nameplate capacity. This can be in one single go, or broken down into multiple small charge/discharge events.

The manual says:
6000 Cycles @ 80% DOD / 25ºC / 0.5C, 60% EOL

Good luck figuring that out. YMMV...
 
Basically at 0.5c which is half its capacity if I'm not mistaken. How one actually measures it is a closely guarded secret.
C is load as a function of capacity.

5 kWh battery at 0.5C gives you a load of 2.5 kW.

You'll get 6,000 cycles if you meet the above and discharge your battery daily to 20% SOC (80% DOD)...
 
Is the sunsynk not a 1C battery then?
According to the spec it's 5 kW max and 2.5 kW nominal. Nominal is what it's meant to run at continuously, max is the safety margin. It's not meant to run at max continuously, which is why the cycle life is specced that way...

At 1C, the battery will still operate but it will last less cycles (seen other batteries tested and the number was estimated to 4000 cycles). It's not exactly that, as the DoD and temperature also impact number of lifetime cycles.
I have 2x 5.32kwh Sunsynk batteries, and total discharge per day rarely exceeds 10kwh, mostly around 8-9kwh, so was concerned if that might be too much. But seems like it should be fine. Happy if batteries get through 10yrs tbh.

Edit: and most importantly don't want to do anything the manufacturer says you really shouldn't do.

I'm aware of the C rating and the actual energy used. But I've seen some batteries state their warranties to limit to something like 600 cycles per year maximum. Haven't seen anything specific for Sunsynk.
 
I've been limiting my Sunsynk batteries at 0.5C, that's why getting the third battery is nice as now I'm not so limited with load when there is loadshedding (and no PV). Though I've only exceeded the limit once, so it's not a big concern if you're just conscious of how many things you're turning on (mostly in the kitchen).
 
Not from personal experience, but word on the street is that it can take 2-4 weeks. Pretty poor service, especially considering the Eskom service in this country, and the initial commitment from Sunsynk (David Drake himself) 3 years ago to provide loan units, which seems to have fizzled out.

Solis have indicated that they will provide a replacement unit if one of theirs fails under warranty, let's hope that they keep their promise.
Very poor service indeed. If i had known this i would have definitely bought another brand. System was only live for a month when the fault popped up and inverter stopped working.

Have read somewhere, but can't confirm, Sunsynk warranty based on a maximum of 700 cycles per year. So that is plenty, if correct. Even at 600 cycles per year, that is ~7kwh per day per battery.
