All things Sunsynk (Deye, Inge, etc...)

Have a friend who has had his install for about 2 months. A month ago the dongle stopped reporting data to the cloud. Installer tried a second dongle to no avail. Diagnosis is a faulty port on the Sunsynk 8kw. Friend has now been waiting over a month for a loan unit and he travels a lot, so he now has to set his system SOC's to 100% when he is away so there's no risk of the family running out of power.

Anyway, has anybody heard of the dongle port failing?

Tried updating the firmware on the dongle to see if that helps? Or is it completely inaccessible?

Problem with a firmware update is how do you get that done from SS HQ without the inverter connected to the internet?
 
See today that load total for 15th is intact, but yesterday (16th) also missing.
So that's 11th, 13th, 14th, 16th all missing.

Not happy about this. Called the SS "tech support" Thursday but a person with heavy "cuppa tea" accent answered and was of no help, blaming my setup, "call your installer" blah blah.

Will likely try firmware upgrade next week; then I guess we're at their mercy beyond that if problem persists.
Mine is fine after the firmware upgrade.

Can you see the dongle on your local network and can you ping it? If not, then I'd say yeah the port is probably dead.
 
Is there away to calculate how many panels are pulling down power? e.g. if you have 10 panels per MPPT, they'd be at xyz voltage.
 
Is there a quick setting on the Sunsynk for rainy and cloudy days, when you basically want to disable all SOC settings in system mode and rather keep the batteries at whatever state they are, and rather have the inverter use a mix of grid and PV to meet the load requirements?

I ask, because it's tedious to increase the system mode SOC values on a rainy day and then having to remember to undo those changes the next sunny day.

I have tried playing with the Use Timer checkbox, but for some reason, even though I save the unchecking by hitting OK, a short time later, the Use Timer box is checked again by the system.

What am I missing?

Uh, dumb question: What happens if you disconnect the battery (DC isolation switch)?

If you turn off the timer, doesn't the battery charge from grid until it's full?

If you turn the timer off and it stays off (as it's supposed to) then the battery will always be charged from grid (whenever there's no excess PV) so its not gonna achieve what you want.

You actually need to keep the timer on and then set all SOC levels to 100% and charge from grid off on all time slots.

My rainy day scenario would be to use the Sunsynk like a Mecer inverter. Keep batteries at 100%, PV and grid combo to cover house loads. I am wanting a setting that can instantly disable the System Mode settings and put it into "Mecer inverter mode" as I described.

I'd request a firmware upgrade then, that sounds like a bug.
 
Think I've mentioned that I have 2 geysers in the house, both setup with GeyserWise and temperature set to 55 degrees, geyser blankets installed.

Is it better to only let them run for short periods before their intended use or longer periods to maintain temperature?

I think it depends what you are using to run the elements. If Solar I would heat it during the peak sun periods up to 65/70 and then to a lower value during the non sun period.
I have a single Geyser with geyserwise, family of 4. I heat to 65 during the day from solar (10-4) and then to 50 from 1-5. Often the 1-5 slot doesn't need to run cause it is still hot enough.
 
Really pleased with my new set-up... panels still to be added in the next month or so.

Just wondering, could any of the experts here let me know if the old kit is worth anything? I think the batteries might be spent as the old set-up dropped in performance quite drastically but the inverter and cabinet should be good.

For all the Sunsynk inverter users that didn't find the Sunsynk batteries worth it, and went with another brand of battery, any regrets?
I see prices have come down a little bit, but still ~25% more than most other brands (1C max types). Specifically referring to 5kwh capacity batteries.
