All things Sunsynk (Deye, Inge, etc...)

Mine is 10 minute intervals now. Sometimes it will do 5 minute intervals, but most of the time it's 10 minutes now. :mad:
Mine is still 60secs, but I don't have the option to change it anymore.

I don't ever really use the Sunsynk data but nice knowing it's there.

They removed the option to change it and is only allowed to be changed by sunsynk agents, really horrible move.

Although it shows 60secs its permanently on 10 minutes due to server and infrastructure load according to another post.

Weird, I still have some data at 5 minute intervals and some at 10 minutes. Looks like it's trying to do best-effort 5, but 10 otherwise.

They should then introduce a local-only monitoring feature. Our data does not have to travel to their API first then back to us again.

So we have to contact our installer to change the refresh interval?

I think it is only sunsynk that is able to control it at the moment, I asked for installer role which they gave and still cannot change it.

I agree they should look at a local only feature.

I caved and got solar assistant and I couldn't be happier with it.

Initially I tried the local route and while the functionality was once there there core appears to have been neutered because it just returns zeros. I asked and got this back from Joel as Sunsynk:
To my knowledge, you will not be able to intercept the data like this.
The best way to do it is via the RS485 port and querying the data via Modbus.

Their support also laughed me off two weeks ago when I tried to request historic data which they promised would be available again a few months ago. The next time I plug that sunsynk dongle back in is if I need a firmware upgrade.

The man reason I'm posting it is the fact that it has it's own autostart box.

It is advertised as "ATS ready" so I thought I would have to make my own (Arduino or ESP ) on, choke, start, sense start etc. box.
I asked them for a pinout of the ATS plug but the importers didn't have it and said they would email Loncin for it , but I haven't heard anything since.

So I have been using it a bit and my inverters (Deye parallel 5kw's) are happy, managing to charge the battery pack at 20A (220v , 5kw) easily.
I did have to tie neutral to earth at it's plug though.

So anyway I took the covers off this afternoon to see where the ATS plug was connected to and discovered a box tucked away behind the face plate.
This way and that there is a single wire that when connected to a positive (12v) begins a start cycle (choke, starter, starter off, choke off etc.) and the generator runs.
Disconnect that wire and then the generator shuts down.

So I'm well pleased, the inverters can control the generator directly and it makes it a real bargain at that price.

If anyone wants the pinout of the ATS plug I can post it tomorrow.

It depends a lot on your solar forecast and usecase. Schedule your batteries to use PV to recharge as much as possible, then look at your historical usage to determine what SOC you need at what time of day. You may need to play around with geyser timers, adjusting when you cook/do washing/bath etc accordingly.

This is what my settings look like for reference:

Battery shutdown: 20%
Battery restart: 40%
Low battery: 30%
Grid Charge: Enabled for 20:00 - 00:00 and 00:00 - 06:30 to maintain minimum levels.

Time / battery:

00:00 - 06:30 | 30%
06:30 - 11:00 | 60%
11:00 - 13:00 | 100%
13:00 - 17:00 | 80%
17:00 - 20:00 | 60%
20:00 - 00:00 | 40%

That being said I am busy revamping my schedule entirely, as I want it to only charge from the grid if absolutely necessary and also if there is an upcoming LS slot where I will need to run on batteries when there is no incoming PV.

Basically this is what the logic will be(and it is a WIP):

If no sun and ~60min prior to a LS slot and battery SOC is below 40%, charge battery to 70% and turn off the geyser.
If sun present (>1500w) and SOC is below 50% and ~60min prior to a LS slot, turn off the geyser
If sun present (>1500w) and SOC is above 80% and ~60min prior to a LS slot, turn on the geyser if current time is after 09:30
If there is a LS slot happening between 18:00 and 08:00, turn off geyser and set SOC to 100% even if charging from grid is required.

I also have a button in HA that I can klap to max out the SOC and override the above rules if I see we are entering a LS slot that I somehow missed, or anticipate heavy usage and need the battery to be full for this reason.

It depends on your usage patterns, and your peak load and what your usecase is like.

8kW is a nice beefy unit, but if you are someone who maybe likes to cook while your kids/SO takes a bath then you might find you could get close to the rated capacity so it might mean you need to be careful with your loads and stagger usage accordingly.

The price seems a bit high considering it's just the unit pricing and excludes installation. The inverter seems to retail around R28k (probably more now that LS is back) and a 5kW battery is anything from R15k and up depending on brand.

Did they specify the brand? All batteries have a 'C' rating, which is how much power they can deliver. A 5kW battery with a 1.0C rating would be able to give 100A of current, whereas a 0.5C battery is able to deliver half of that. And since you won't be grid-tied, you will need to be more mindful about your usage since you can't fall back onto Eskom if you surpass the power your battery is able to provide.

Lastly, be very careful as there seems to be a lot of scaly guys popping up all over the show. Make sure you do your research and buy from a reputable company :)

There are only two adults in the family,kids have flown the nest a long time ago.
We get home cooked meals so little to no cooking and I don't mean "Meals On Wheels":ROFL:

The battery is 1 x SUNSYNK 5kW 100Ah LiFePo4 Lithium Ion Battery – SUN-BATT-5.32
The supplier isn't a problem as our company has an account with them.
I think the biggest thing is an honest,reliable installer,
 
my 5kw sunsynk died a little bit last night, the rs232 port ( its on its own little board) just died, neither the wifi dongle or solar-assist work anymore. Going to call them up tomorrow and ask how much for a new board, its the size of a match box, with 2 screws, cant be too much

plan b has been ordered, a rs485 cable that can plug into the pi for the solar assist stuff, but until the rs232 board gets changed, no more sw updates

when u say "won't be grid tied" do u mean no escom connection at all or you won't feed into the grid?
