Thanks. How old is your i nverter and what firmware is it on? I thought that I would set it up like you have but Solar Assistant support has said this...





Not sure how to test whether our inverter which is running the latest firmware from a few weeks ago, this is what is listed under SW Ver.

M 6.0.2.7 / S 1.7.2.4 / C E.4.3.D
Mine is the same as Wayne's

My inverter was commissioned in August last year. I know the new 5KW inverters need the splitter, but unless they have changed the ports on the 8KW, you should be OK with the setup I have.

My firmware is M 6.0.2.6 / S 1.7.2.4 / C E.4.3.9

Compare your ports to the one in the picture on the SA web site. If the port to the left of the BMS CAN is open, then that is the one you will use.

Perhaps email Sunsynk support, they should be able to advise if the ports have changed.

The Solar Assistant website doesn't list the 8kw inverter as needing the split cable, so I may just get the others and give it a try.
 
Hi all, can someone tell me if what happens in the video is normal. I have a sunsynk at home as well and this does not happen but at the office it does.

The installer insists it is normal.

A bit of background, I kept getting grid disconnect and restore notifications and left it for a while but then I decided to look more into it. As I am sitting at my desk I keep hearing this clicking noise and got up to look what it is, turns out the inverter makes a click noise every few minutes constantly.

When the first click happens in the video the grid stops feeding back and drops to 0, solar output drops quite a bit, starts using batteries and I get a grid disconnect.

When the click happens again in second clip the grid returns back, starts feeding back, solar output back to normal and I get a grid restore.

No change in weather or anything funny that I can see.

Can't really say for sure, but it does sound like the relay switching over.

This could be the grid being unstable, either dropping temporarily or the voltage being out of the expected range. These inverters will disconnect the grid (and hence start pulling from battery) when the voltage isn't in that range. You can set this range in the inverters settings, the defaults should be good but you could double check what these are and what the grid voltage looks like.

The relay also has a delay built in, so it won't immediately restore to grid after the event but will wait like 5 minutes or something to flip the relay back (that time is also configurable).

As for this being "normal" it really depends, it's expected behaviour for the inverter when the grid is unstable - but that's what you need to find out.

Constant grid disconnects are not normal in my opinion, could be frequency or voltage fluctuations of the grid supply? Or an issue with the inverter like we had a few weeks back where it was detecting grid frequency going from 0Hz - 50Hz constantly when it definitely was not.

Would it be beneficial to change it and see if there is a improvement?

The high voltage is set to 251.

Checking the stats there are some times the voltage goes above 251 for example 251.2 or 251.5 and even 252.

Where is the grid voltage set to 230V? Have you tested the grid voltage with a multi meter to confirm it is the same as what the inverter is reporting? 248V is too high in my opinion...

I think let me rather just ask the installers to check voltages and things today when they come back to be sure of everything, you are correct I should not go on what the inverter shows.
 
@DrJohnZoidberg @Neuk_ installers were here, only things they picked up and sorted out were some wiring issues which he has sorted out.

Hopefully would be the end of this issue.
I would still monitor the grid voltage reported by the inverter over the next few days. The voltage will change throughout the day depending on the load on the grid in your area.

If it gets up super high again then it's likely the issue will just continue happening.
 
Has anybody got their SunSynk inverter to work with a generator using the GRID port method...

Our physical setup is the same, I didn't know of the setup options in the AUX section of the inverter though, so when our generator is running again I want to give it a try.
 
The worst is it would be the second sunsynk they would need to replace, previous one's buttons were not working.

249V is high but is below the maximum allowable set on the inverter from what I remember? You said the INV Output voltage(V) is set to 230V, what are the Low voltage(80.0-300.0V) and High voltage(80.0-300.0V) under Grid Settings > Normal Connect set to?
