Abraham Gerhardus Hendrik van Tonder, commonly known as Otto van Tonder, is wanted for fraud. A warrant for his arrest has been issued. Van Tonder was featured on the television programme Carte Blanche for his alleged crimes, which included taking deposits for cars and houses in an elaborate “peer funding” and “rent-to-own” scheme. Multiple victims paid funds to Van Tonder, but never received the bond or vehicle funding in the “peer funding” scheme, nor did they receive any vehicle in the “rent to-own” scheme.

Paper, public aid in arrest

Within hours of the story of fugitive from the law Otto van Tonder appearing in Vistalast week, he was taken into custody in Virginia. “IRS Forensic Investigations was contacted by members of the public with information relevant to the case, and the suspect himself contacted the IRS investigator to arrange to meet with us,” says Chad Thomas of IRS.
