So Trump has been blowing his horn about the Chemical Attack in Syria on innocent civilians.

http://www.bbc.co.uk/news/world-middle-east-43707023

The UN Security Council meeting last night was very anti-Russia/Syria, with the USA, France and UK threatening reprisals.

https://www.cbsnews.com/news/u-n-se...al-attack-syria-today-2018-04-09-live-stream/

The Israelis have already slipped in a reprisal, not just for this chemical attack, but also for the involvement of Iran in Syria.

https://www.washingtonpost.com/worl...ef7c4eaf247_story.html?utm_term=.531e5bc8ac4a

So, what is Trump going to do ?

Also, a new development over the last few years is the Russian introduction of the latest missile technology, the "Triumph" S400 system.

https://www.military.com/defensetech/2018/01/26/russia-deploys-more-s-400-missile-systems-syria.html

It has already made an impact, last month an Israeli F16 was shot down :

https://www.aljazeera.com/news/2018/02/israel-shot-iranian-drone-syria-180210053946323.html

A few months ago, an unsophisticated rebel drone attack was stopped and most of the drones were shot down.

https://www.cnbc.com/2018/01/12/rus...ebels-behind-swarm-drone-attack-in-syria.html

During the recent Israeli attack on the Homs air base, only 3 out of 8 missiles penetrated the Russian missile shield. Presumably the rest were shot down using the S400 system.

So, any opinions ?

What is Trump going to do, most cruise missiles would probably be shot down.

The USA could use a drone swarm to stifle the Russian defenses, but would they be prepared to use this highly secret technology for a cause and in a location like this ?

These can be launched from an F-18, and would wipe out an S-400 missile battery, but this would cause an escalation beyond what the USA would like, and hand over secret technology.

So, what is Trump going to do ? Opinions ?

He is just showing of his muscles, no real action will be taken!

They probably do, they have surveillance planes flying around Syria all the time, they probably know exactly which planes/helicopters were used, and where they were launched from.

You sure ? They have just told everyone that they don't have evidence to confirm the previous attack.

WASHINGTON — The U.S. has no evidence to confirm reports from aid groups and others that the Syrian government has used the deadly chemical sarin on its citizens, Defense Secretary Jim Mattis said Friday.

Don't know, last time there was a large cruise missile strike.

And he is under pressure at home, he needs to focus attention on something external.

Well, it is one thing to be aware of exact aircraft movements and another to know what they were carrying.

I guess that they will try to coordinate all the information that they have.

They probably have sources on the ground as well - but they need to get that information out, which may not be simple, as the area is surrounded by Russian and Syrian troops.

Not long ago the intention was:

“We’re knocking the hell out of Isis. We’ll be coming out of Syria, like, very soon,” the president said. “Let the other people take care of it now."

Donald Trump says US will withdraw from Syria 'very soon' - despite promise not to telegraph military thinking

Hmm, good analysis, everyone following this should read it :

Assad's integrated air defense system is a particularly attractive target set because it will leave him vulnerable to wider follow-up strikes. The destruction of entire airfields and the aircraft based at them is another good option. Basically neutering his ability to wage air warfare would be a significant loss.

The real question is: Who will be paying the US for their military assistance?

HMM, IMO Trump has painted himself into a corner, he has to do something.

And after considering all the scenarios, I believe that the above analysis is correct :

Assad's integrated air defense system is a particularly attractive target set because it will leave him vulnerable to wider follow-up strikes. The destruction of entire airfields and the aircraft based at them is another good option. Basically neutering his ability to wage air warfare would be a significant loss.

But how will they do it, without suffering unacceptable losses ?

Will this be the first use of a Drone Swarm, which can easily take out the S400 batteries and all the aircraft on the airfield ?

And how will the Russian respond, Putin will surely throw his toys.

Maybe a good thing that we are far away.

Correct. Trump's master Putin doesn't want any interference in his attempts to get his hands on Syrian oil and keep the Middle East destabilised to sell more weapons, hence nothing will happen to Syria or Assad.

Looks like someone is trying to pin the blame on someone else who then tries to put the blame to someone else again...at the end, all the fingers point back to the USA.

Some thoughts on your post -

- Israeli F-16 was not shot down by the S-400 system.

Now if and this is a big if, the US proceed with striking Syria, they may follow the typical route as follows:

- USAF will not use a drone swarm. They have not really expanded upon the "swarm" scenario as of yet.

- First attack will involve cruise missiles from sub's and Destroyers in the Med. Depending on how wide they want to go with a retaliatory strike they will then use JSOW's launched from B-52's. The B-2's will follow soon.

- The US will not attack any Russian S-400 system.

- The French and British will follow soon after the above mentioned strikes have eliminated much of Syrian Air Defence forces.

Everyone will keep a wide berth of Latakia and Tartus, where the S-400 sits.

Interesting, I didn't know about the S-400. The S-300 (SA-10) is already a force to be reckoned with, so this S-400 must be a nightmare for pilots.

Yes, I think it is a nightmare, only thing that I know about that could defeat it is a drone swarm.

But maybe there are tricks that I am not aware of.
