Take down the missle shield with an EMP and Artilery. and then Blow the hell out of what is left of Siria

Only way to generate a substantial EMP to knockout a hardened system like the S-400 would be a high altitude detonation of a nuke.

Apart from affecting allies in Turkey and Israel and the middle east, that solution may just create a slightly bigger problem of a nuclear war between Russia and the USA.

Nap of the earth cruise missile will get it done without setting off a nuke, not to mention, a lot of military tech is hardened against an EMP type of strike.

Artillery have a limited range, and accuracy is questionable - also, keep in mind that these S400 launchers are probably mobile. At the first sign of these getting hit, they will move. I'm guessing that it will be operating procedure to move them constantly within an area of operation anyway.

Perfect strike opportunity for SMU's to have some fun. Look at what they did with the first gulf war - had the SMU's go in and target the SCUD's. There is likely quite a few units moving around the country already, but they will be able to HAHO/HALO these troops without initiating aggression. Once ready and in position, they eliminate the threat, and start the aggression.
 
Your title makes it sound like a statement of fact. Also the Israeli jet wasn't shot down by an S-400.
 
I have been following this conflict including the international relations of all the players involved closely for the last few years. Sadly this all playing out as expected.

I did some reading after you posted this.
The russians say they can shoot down stealth fighters. The Americans say they can't.
Then there's experts that say they don't really know for sure.
From what I read they probably won't try air strikes anyway, rather just launch missiles from their navy assets.

Well the US themselves have admitted to being caught seriously off guard when Russia unveiled some of their new military tech - so I would not take what either of them says as gospel.

You make it sound like Putin is an impulsive kid with that statement. The Russians have been, to me at least, the complete opposite of that.

In fact the only rational voice during all of this madness (incl Salisbury debacle) has been the Russians.
But as they have stated time and time again, nobody cares to listen to them.

Think what you want regarding him being a dictator, but I believe him to be one of the most calculated minds in the world.

It must sound like I'm pro-Russian, but I'm just pro reason and logic.

Any idea what shot down 5 out of 8 Israeli F-15 missiles ?

Those must have been small and fast, and not easy to shoot down.
