Almost A Year Wait For Adsl!!!!!

Okay.. applied for ADSL on the 15th of July.. HomeDSL 192kb.. all's cool. Phone in a week later, yes my application's been processed it'll take a few more days for ports to be allocated and then just for the techie to come around and install the line... all's shweet

Anyway, it's now three weeks down the line... phone in, only in on the 21st of October because a new bank of DSLAMS need to be installed into the exchange.. I fumed a bit, was p*ssed off, gotten over it.. ANYWAY

Phone today (22 August) 5 weeks, 3 days later.. phone 0800 DSL DSL and I'm told to call some chick who's apparently in charge of the project to install the DSLAMs.. interesting how it's an 031 (Durban) number they give me when I'm in Jo'burg.... SO phone this woman, and she says "oh no, I have some bad news." *brace myself* It's not in Telkom's finance plan to provide more infrastructure in that area as this time (or something that sounded like that ), but the project will be done some time NEXT YEAR APRIL...

Anyway.. that's my story, what's yours

*sigh* Wish I could My wacko parents are under the impression that if we keep nagging them they'll keep delaying the order... on the other hand, I wouldn't put anything past Telkom

My story is the same...I applied in March...after many phone calls I've been delayed many times. The last time they said Maybe October...so I cancelled my ADSL application. There's no way I"m going to give them my business anymore. I'm now trying to decide which wireless option to go for. Sentech isn't available in my area so it's a toss up between iBurst and Vodacom's 3G (I'm a Vodacom subscriber already so I'm not really considering MTN).

got told 2 to 3m i said BS I called the thursday, spoke to a chappie that was not very helpful.So i started calling him "COMARDE" i asked him why i have to wait so long ,did i spend 5years in jail because of my anti apartheid beliefs for nothing.You know what SUNDAY=MODEM IN CONNECTED THE LOT.

It just makes me sick that we even have to stoop to Telkom's level to get a bloody ADSL line installed I once phoned a customer care where I was on hold for less then a minute, they played enjoyable 'hold' music, and the person who answered the call was all happy and fixed my problem in a jiffy... *sigh* Okay I didnt, but it's a nice thought

Hi Dov,

I would get out while you can. Investigate the wireless options available. I have the same problem where I'm moving houses, and in the area I'm moving to they will not have infrastucture until next year sometime. I'm an existing client! So they're cancelling my contract with no penalties. I'm going to iBurst.

Mom phoned Telkom today, and apparently the installation date and date set for the DSLAM port to be completed it still the 21st of October? WTF?!?!?! :: does ANYONE at Telkom actually kno what's happening???

Hi Guys

Also applied a year ago. Date keep changing, stories are made up daily.
Live close to University of Pta, and many car Showrooms, and they all seem to be happy with the DSL service they get from Telkom.
Perhaps I should stop paying my Telkom bill till I ge some service, then again what would that help, Telkom could'nt care less, Im only a customer!!!!

I applied for a 512 line 3 months ago, well to cut a long story short, after they came to my house, tested everything configured the modem, they left, 2 days the little connection light blinked, so I phoned telkom, nothing, then I lost it and sent a nice little email to senior management, they responded telling me that there are no more ports, so again, i lost it and wrote another email, telling then to take there **** out and that, I would do everything I could to inform people of the bad service... Well a techie was out in 2 hours and connected me up, so if anybody would like the email address that I used let me know...

Mine came in like 4 weeks after I ordered it. They said they had to upgrade the lines had no idea what that meant @ the time, I saw them digging down the road was happy to see some activity whether it was Telkom or not. I reckon wait like 3 weeks for order then pester them like evey week.

The good onld blinking light, I thought about it what I reckon it is is some tool that doesn't know what he's doing on the job & just makes space for other connections.

P.S. Why the **** is ADSL so slow again 512 my ass.
