Incredible Connection = Terrible Corruption

As for the Seagate "saga", I can't believe that none of the retailers warn potential buyers about the issues with the disks. I just happened uppon the story here on MyBB. Had my 500gig for 2 months and it was one of the affected drives. Flashed the damn thing, luckily all still works well. Lets see for how long!!!!

Retailers are normally completely clueless, with their only goal being to move as much stock as possible, to make as much money as possible.

That said, the whole firmware saga is completely overstated in my opinion: looking at the technical cause of failures, it is indeed a very remote chance one has of having a drive fail due to the firmware bug - a very specific set of circumstances has to be met for a drive to be affected.

I still think that Seagate drives are NO MORE LIKELY to fail than any other manufacturer's product. In fact, I know of a very big distributor that reckons WD drives have been crap for the last 18 months...
