Hi,

Anyone else having problems with Alt.Binz.

When i download files with it, some of the files say a 100% complete, but when i check their file sizes, i can clearly see that alt.binz has failed to download the whole file.

Any thoughts?

I've tried all the other newsreaders out there, alt.binz is by far the best. wOuld like to solve this bug so that i can continue using it.

I often get that - you have a "completed" download, yet when you check the PARs, it shows as incomplete. I don't know if it's specific to alt.binz, or if it's the IS news server.

If the PARs aren't enough to fix the download, then I usually just re-import the nzb, and re-download the stuffed files. Even if you don't necessarily get a fully complete file out of it, sometimes the additional data provides enough blocks to do a full repair.

Some downloads come down 100% perfectly - I usually find it's the uncached that gives me this problem - maybe it's due to the slow speed. I find it annoying that alt.binz removes the item that has "successfully" downloaded. It should rather stay in the list with a "complete" status so you can re-do it if necessary.

There is supposedly a fix here.

I haven't tried it yet.

My international is down so i cant get you the exact thread. At the bottom of of the thread is a link to another thread which gives more info. Both should when used together should supply a fix.

To me at least it doesnt sound like it qualifies as "the best" software for the job?

Other than that bug, its fantastic. I mainly use grabit, scratch that, i always use grabit. Because i almost never get corrupt or incomplete files.

If i could fix the "bug" it would really be the ultimate reader.

Ive tried all the other reader, but ive never been happy with them.

What do you use?

Damn, suddenly it's happening on all my recent downloads. Frikkin' annoying.

Thanks for the link jak3, I'll take a look around a bit and see if I can find the fix.

If you find the fix, could post it here. :)

I will do the same.

Sorry to bring up an old thread, but I think I have the solution. I found that once I had deleted the SAIX news server (even though it was disabled) I was suddenly able to download files that hadn't been working a few minutes before from the IS news server.
If you use both news servers perhaps you can play around with setting them as primary and backup servers, though it might just be easier to have one server configured to what you're currently using...

If you are having this problem with IS, make sure that "ARTICLE cmd" under "SERVERS" is ticked. IS and SAIX download 100% for me.
