Alt To DSTV

Would also LOVE an alternative to DSTV!
R590 for something like 10 channels you actually watch?
And that's when and if you're not watching a series or something from the PC.
Just isn't worth all the money anymore.

Ah, my mistake. :D
To be fair though, he also said "If you are into sports there is pretty much nothing that beats SS"

In my mind DSTV does not even come close to DirecTV, or even UK's Sky for that matter....not in sport, not anything
I mean, they have more "Dish alignment" test channels, than what Dstv Premium has channels

Dude dstv could not keep up with an american network following american sports but does that network show as much soccer, cricket, rugby, f1 moto gp, super bike and so on or is it mostly american stuff?

American sport is not popular world wide, mostly in america but your world wide sports supersport comes very close to having the most content. There is nothing they don't cover. Sadly they would need 200 channels to cover american sport :p

In terms of popular world wide sport there are very few networks who can rival dstv. Sky in the UK does not even show as many leagues as super sport.

Well i am doing the 24 Hour demo on UK2TVc today and will let you know how it goes.

All i want is Movie, TV Episodes, F1 and Rugby (Stormers , SA) Channel. So it might be worth while to get the 30 pound package.

You living there or is it a streaming version?

No i will be trying this on a 8MB Line here in SA :). If i was in the UK it would be a 100MB Line from Virgin Media :D

yeah, i am looking for an alternative for my compact dstv. i do stream all the sports that i have and i have quite a nice collection of streaming sport worldwide. i think a 120GB capped account will suffice streaming decent quality sport, movies, series, docs and pron obviously. the problem i sit with is getting is getting that amount of data at a very cheap price. uncapped will never run consistently unless you take the openweb package. i might actually consider that, but i don't need uncapped.

all the choices we need to make.

So i tested UK2TV over the weekend and it worked 100% BUT when it starts there is a small delay, Need to get it onto my TV next.

Test:

Laptop
8MB ADSL Line
Sling Player Software

So this might be a good option to go for 30 Pounds...

my two cents worth! I'll be following this thread very closely for upates. I'm in NZ, and I'm always looking for an aternative to the crappy Sky NZ we have here. We don't get as much channels as Dstv, and the sport content here, and what sports game they have to righrs to is absolutley shocking! I'm also looking for an alternative to Sky TV. Here is the stuff that I know of so far. There is this website here, quite a good range of US channels you can watch for free NBC, ABC CBS, Fox ETC. http://www.ustvnow.com/
There's also a pro option available. I also pay for a VPN service at www.hidemyass.com, and I have taken out a Sky GO account. I also use Zattoo with a Swiss IP address, and I can get all BBC/ITV channels. (Like DSTV on demand) except there is actual channels streamed live. For sport, that's not showed on Sky here, I use a SA proxy and I have a friend who let's me use his DSTV ondemand account, and I can stream in sports and watch DSTV ondemand. Check this out http://www.nationphone.com It's a US cable subscription for people living overseas. I haven't tried it, becuase it's a bit on the costly side. I download all my shows like American Idol from torrent sites. Then there's a freecable addon for XBMC http://forum.xbmc.org/showthread.php?tid=101938, which is sort of a "Catch up" provider. I use it to watch Days of our lives, becuase TVNZ axed broadcasting it several years ago. (Television New Zealand, is worse than the SABC! Also airs reruns of shows that ended in the early 2000s, for example friends, and their advertising isn't regulated that well, it's loud and horrible!)
